I knew it! I knew it! That little, pink-banded timepiece is a step bandit!
I bought the watch thinking it would accurately show me how energetic I was. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
I’ve faithfully worn that sucker on my wrist night and day. It’s supposed to track my sleep as well. But if it does as poorly on that as it apparently does with my daily steps, it is headed for the garbage!
I knew something was amiss when after I carried the laundry from one end of the house to the other but no steps registered. Any time I shop and hold onto a cart, my steps do not increase on the watch. Sometimes at Walmart, I try counting. My attention span usually gets me to about 10, then my mind is on to other things. By the time I traipse around the store searching for things on my list, revisit different departments to get things not on my list, then find Ronald, I know I walked another bajillion steps! I just haven’t been able to prove it.
Stolen steps no more!!!
This morning, I knew I would have a busy day trying to finish my Christmas decorating. Though I didn’t get the job done, I made good progress. I even got some of the cleaning up done. Yay, me!
Instead of having the watch on my wrist, I tucked it into my sock with the back of the watch touching my skin. I figured it would register like it was supposed to.
Wow! Was I in for a shock!
Instead of the 2400 or so steps the dern thing usually shows, by the time I crashed after supper it registered over 9500 steps. I knew it!
It’s a little inconvenient to retrieve the watch from my sock to check the time, but I’ll just use my phone or look at the stove clock. Since I don’t have it synced to do anything fancy with messages, notifications, or phone calls, the watch will have a new home. I’ll teach it not to lie to me!
There are many really great Bible verses about time and steps. I’m going to list some of my favorites.
Proverbs 16:9 NKJV ‘A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.’
Psalms 35:15 NKJV ‘My times are in Your hand.’
Ephesians 5:15-17 NKJV ‘See then that you walk carefully, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.’
In a speech I gave at my high school graduation, (feels like a hundred years ago!) I used the words of King Solomon to make my point. Ecclesiastes 3:11 is a beautifully poetic verse. ‘He has made everything beautiful in its time…He has put eternity in their hearts.’ Augustine said God made us for Himself, and our hearts are restless until we find peace in Him.
Psalm 37:23 in the Living Bible tells the truth of it all. ‘The steps of good men are directed by the Lord. He delights in each step they take.’ And like He knows the number of hairs on our heads, I’ll bet He keeps track of our steps.
May we always be found walking in the ways of the Lord.
Blessings
Kara Beth
