Memories and Musings
Okay, so I may be a bit of a hoarder keeper of precious things. Through the years I have tried my best to throw away cards and pictures my girls gave us. Today’s attempt wasn’t any better than my other efforts. In my defense, I have whittled everything down to one plastic tub of memorabilia – including some of my childhood dolls. Not a bad day’s work.
I admit I had a goofy grin all the while as precious memories filled my heart with love and joy.
I could always tell which drawing was by Stephanie. Every girl she drew had on a fancy dress.

The girls’ creative spelling at young ages was always delightful to me. And still is!

I just realized the three bulging file folders I looked through last week need to be added to the bucket to clear out one of the office drawers. Definitely a project for another day since I have been at this cleaning and sorting business for around 12 hours.
I also sorted costumes. I had made gorgeous princess dresses for my two older granddaughters who loved playing dress up. Since the youngest doesn’t care much for that activity, I put those costumes in plastic bags and then the air was all sucked out. I hope to keep them for some great-granddaughters. I put the dresses and pirate outfits for Disney cruises in the bags and all are now squished tightly from what would have been 3 plastic tubs. I did keep out one outfit for me for Halloween at which time I will be a medieval queen.
Finally accepting my lot in life, I am doing my best to get my act together. I am now placing things appropriately, where I want them, labeling many boxes and drawers with the contents so I will know where I put what, and uncluttering a wee bit at least.
One thing that hit me as I sorted through things – how sad it is that printed media is almost entirely a thing of the past. Do you remember when the sports page listed last week’s exciting results of the home team’s win with pictures of your kids? How about those hometown activities and people deemed by the local media to be of interest? In this day and age when most are following whatever it’s called by those influencers they don’t even know, there is little reporting or recording of events or people whom you know or really care about.
‘Times, they are a-changin’.’ But is it all really for the better?
And people! Seriously! I am an old person!!!
Instead of having a nice piece of paper explaining what I need to know, I am told to hold up my phone and take a picture of one of those crazy black and white squares of squiggles! Mercy!
Changes! Progress!- Bah, humbug!
However –
There are some precious things that never change. God cannot and will not change. His constant love calls to all who will accept Him as Lord. He will continue to do so until the end of time. Jesus will never quit loving mankind. God’s faithfulness never ends.
Lamentations 3:22-24 ‘The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in Him.’
There are some good changes in the Bible.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.’
I may not be able to make myself look new on the outside, but I pray I will become a newer, more like Christ version every day.
Blessings
Kara Beth
