Tomato Miracles

I really wanted to make the title longer, but the enormity of the miracles that are happening with Melissa are too amazing to list in a title!

I’ll start with tomatoes. From the time she was old enough to talk, she would tell her daddy, who always grew tomatoes, that she would eat them when she was three, then four, on and on – ten – twenty – thirty – forty. And then the miraculous change in attitude! She began eating a bit of caprese salad, then a bite of tomato in other things, and finally! She now asks her daddy for some fresh tomatoes! It is never too late to change our tastes!

Next comes the other miracle of the day. She wanted to have her curtains hemmed. And she wanted to learn how to do it herself.

You have to understand. I have sewn for years and encouraged my girls to learn. I guess somewhere along the way, I loosened my nagging attitude toward sewing by the time Missy came along. Plus, she always said, ‘Mom, I need to practice my piano.’ Or her harp, or her drums, or her cello. So caught between the two types of talents, I told her she didn’t have to learn to sew. As a result of her diligent practice, she is an excellent musician.

I saw her diligence repeated today as she focused on carefully measuring, cutting, pinning, and sewing the curtain hems. I hope she is as proud of herself as I am of her.

Sometimes, learning new things is a result of opportunity. Sometimes desire. Sometimes need.

More important than learning or perfecting any skill or craft is to learn the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV  ‘All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.’

Proverbs 18:15 tells us, ‘An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.’

Proverbs 9:9  ‘Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.’

The next verse is a promise of God that I love! Psalm 32:8  ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.’  It’s really cool to think of God watching our progress, kinda scary, but still cool.

Here is my prayer. Psalm 25:5   ‘Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day long.’
