Fun Failure!

Today is gloomy so in between doing what I need to be doing, I decided to try my hand at repairing my laminator.

Here at the old people place, we always need stuff printed. Some things last longer if they have a more permanent coating. And as anyone who knows me realizes, I love machines of all sorts so my printer and laminator have come in handy. I replaced my printer last year with a fancy dan one that even prints great pictures. I’ll be ordering a new laminator as soon as I’m done with this blog.

And if you’ve been around me for any length of time, you know I am not afraid of crazy projects.

I figured since I have in the past replaced a sump pump, tried my hand at fixing sewing machines, rewired light switches, and miscellaneous other stupid stuff beyond my expertise, I may as well try to make the laminator feed the plastic as it should.

I piddled around with it for thirty minutes or so, only ended up with one burn on my arm, tried to feed another sheet through. Tried it again. Nope. Tried moving the stubborn gears that were supposed to turn the rollers. They moved until I tried feeding the film.

Alas, it was a no go. But I had fun trying. I had to take it over to the computer guy across the street and brag. I didn’t catch anything on fire, get shocked, or blow anything up as I fiddled with the rollers with the cover off. I only wasted one full sheet of laminating film.

So …

All’s well.

It’s time to get to work on today’s to-do list. But I’m glad I took time to have fun.

I love ol’ Winston Churchill. He said, ‘Success consists of going from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.’ Mark Twain wrote, ‘The difference between those that succeed and those that fail is, those that succeeded tried.’

Better yet, I love all the stories of the guys in Bible who got second chances to fix things. Think about it and look up their stories. Way too many to even name.

I love that God encourages us to try. Over and over. Proverbs 24:16 says, ‘For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.’

And the results of trying again on a spiritual level are amazing!

James 1:2-4  ‘Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.’
