Ten to Four
No, that’s not a sport score.
I have a smarty pants cousin, Tommy, who calls and says, ‘We’ll be there in ten minutes!’ Goofball that I am, I fall for his teasing every time. They live in Florida but travel this way often during track season to see grandkids compete, so it is conceivable they would stop by. Carolyn is too nice to let him do that to me for real. We always have so much fun with them, it’s worth housecleaning to see them a few times a year.
A neighbor called the other day and said she wanted to bring her granddaughter over to meet us. As Nina is a very neat, sophisticated minimalist, I on the other hand am a freestyle clutterist. I hustled to get the house in some sort of order before they arrived. It was worth every effort. We had a lovely visit, and we were most impressed with the delightful young lady who is a freshman in college. Believe it or not, she didn’t say ‘LIKE’ inappropriately once in the conversation! How refreshing was that!
Ronald lived by the clock his entire career and taught us all to be prompt – the earlier the better. Things haven’t changed.
He still wants to hustle me out the door to the meals served at the clubhouse. Many times, I try to think of reasons to have him bring something home to me instead of walking through the rain or cold to get there.
It’s not that I’m being disagreeable (mostly). It’s I don’t feel like getting ready and out the door that time of the morning. Or very often, I am in the middle of a project and leaving for meals would throw off my schedule or disrupt my determination to finish.
Time is a big deal to me. I have been very pleased to find like minded people here who get their act together early. As we prepare for the community talent show on St. Patrick’s Day, several have been rehearsing and sent me the needed songs and books to put on a slide presentation.
I don’t like to waste time. I get upset with myself if I waste time doing word wipe or crosswords.
I particularly hate using valuable time looking for things I can’t remember where I put or what box an item is stored. I really get aggravated at myself when I’ve looked and looked for something, can’t find it, go back to the first place I looked, and lo and behold, there it is right in front of my stinkin’ nose!
There are plenty of Bible verses about time, and one of my best object lessons for my family were the array of hourglass New Year’s presents. I’m not sure they have been any better at my challenge to make good use of time than I have been.
As a supreme example of – I don’t even know how to describe this post.
It is now two months after St. Patrick’s day. Due to bad weather then covid going through the community, our talent show was put off until last Friday. It went well for a first time experience. Everyone pitched in to help pull off a fun day.
But here I am, finishing a blog I started in late February or early March. So much for well-ordered and timely activities!
And the only reason I found this is I couldn’t think of anything I wanted to write about and found this draft I hadn’t finished. The question is, why do I always end up writing about my failures, mishaps, or weaknesses?
Oh well. I hope you get a laugh.
I noticed when I hit the publish button I put the image above showing 20 to 4. Sorry … just TOO LAZY to change it. Crazy old woman. Sigh.
I’ll wrap up this very odd blog with one of my favorite Bible verses. Psalm 31:14-15 NKJV ‘But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand.’
Blessings
Kara Beth
