Thanks!
Through the years we’ve gotten into a habit of giving doctors and their staff special thanks in a strange way.
I think the first cake we gave had magic wands and maybe a fairy. It was in response to a smart aleck comment I had made to my knee surgeon. “What can I do for you?” he asked. “Unless you have a magic wand, I want a double knee replacement.” He hollered out the door, “Nurse, bring me my wand.” A few minutes later, she came back. “I’m sorry, Doctor, I can’t seem to find your wand.”
I wrote that story in 2020 but since few people read my blogs, I thought it could be like most of Ronald’s jokes – funny even on repeat!
Anyway…
The second cake I think was a huge cake decorated with a caricature of a heart with a stethoscope and lots of lovely red flowers. Ronald was having a heart procedure but because it was during the crazy covid mania period, we weren’t allowed to share our thank you. We ended up taking it to the church office to share with our spiritual heart doctors.
We’ve shared cookies and cupcakes through the years since.
Another surgery = another cake – another fairy – my alter ego.

My physical therapists got teased by me and the creative cake decorator at Ingles.

Recently, I celebrated 6 years since my double knee replacement by sending a cake to the ortho office.

When Mama had some issues, I had a grossly cute cake made for the staff at the hospital. As Ronald had a procedure this week, I ordered another like it.

Gross, but funny. I think anyway.
Giving thanks is an easy way to bless others. I don’t do thank you cards often enough. It’s something I want to make more of a habit. Here at the old people place, we’ve received several unexpected thank you cards. I was surprised how the cards touched my heart.
There are many ways to say thanks.
I’ve always been impressed here and in the past when people have shown their thanks by pitching in and helping me in whatever project I have going. Helping serve or cleaning up after a party or activity is a blessing. Others have added their talents and skill sets to large projects and productions I could not have pulled off by myself.
More importantly, I need to faithfully give thanks to God – not only for all the wonderful things He provides, but for who He is.
In what ways am I giving thanks to God? Sure, within my constant prayers. That’s a no brainer. But the creative side of me is challenged to do something more.
Can’t write Him a thank you card or send Him a cake. Can’t text Him a ‘Thanks God!’ message.
Our actions, behaviors, and thoughts give thanks in a way. I think I’m going to have to spend a little time thinking about this. If you have suggestions, please pass them along.
Maybe I’m just looking to give something tangible to a heavenly Being beyond understanding. Maybe, I’ll open my heart and mind to have an attitude of thanksgiving. And the truth is, I don’t need to DO anything to become more acceptable in His sight. Bless His heart! Though it seems wild to me, I think He loves me just like I am!
‘Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. ‘ Psalm 136:1
As I’ve said before. Selah.
Blessings
Kara Beth
