My Printer Named Alice

My printer has been giving me fits, crumpling paper after paper. Mercy!

After getting my panties in a knot trying to work with an AI being, I was able to speak to an absolutely lovely REAL PERSON! Well not speak exactly. It was an online chat.

The techie on the other end was so patient! I bemoaned my ignorance, and at each step Alice explained my next steps. I hope the company sends me an evaluation form. Unless they have a rating for sweetness and patience, I can’t begin to say how I appreciate her help. I kept writing smart aleck complaints to keep my blood pressure from skyrocketing. She responded with humor at each comment.

As I rebooted the printer from scratch, I was supposed to give the printer a name. My HP Smart Tank is now officially ALICE. Every time I use the printer, I will say a prayer for the real Alice.

Like so many things in our home, special items are what I call prayer prompts. Gifts and knick knacks remind me to pray for friends and extended family. With the multitudes of pictures of my kids and their artwork, I remember them in prayer multiple times a day. What better do old ladies have to think about?

Mama used to say she felt like her praying was the only thing she could do. Prayer was her calling and job in her mature years. Maybe mine as well.

Do my prayers do any good? I think so.

1 Thessalonians 5 is a great chapter for learning to live happily and successfully with others. I will only list verses 16-18. ‘Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.’

The Message version of James 5:18 is a good word. ‘The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.’

Luke 18:1 starts a parable Jesus told to prove His point which was to pray without ceasing and don’t lose heart.

I like the verse in Romans 8:26. My ‘fairy godmother’ persona has given way to this assurance that even if I can’t work everything for everyone’s good, God can. The Living Bible says, ‘And in the same way – by our faith – the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don’t even know what we should pray for nor how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words.’

So

I’m praying for you today!

Be blessed

Kara Beth
