Did You See?

When my oldest daughter’s kids would stay with us or travel, sometimes on very long car trips, a song by Baron Von Rumblebuss rang out -REPEATEDLY! Ronald and I didn’t mind. It kept everyone giggling. Honestly, it’s a great song with a memorable tune. The lyrics to the chorus are:

‘Did you see, did you see where the cat threw up / Cuz the cat threw up again / Did you see, did you see where the cat threw up / You better watch what you’re steppin’ in.’

Have you ever heard of a brain worm? ‘The Cat Threw Up’ threatened to become a brain worm tonight as I looked at what I cooked for my supper. I took a picture and sent it to the four kids, suggesting it looked what I imagined cat puke would look like. I hope they have the song stuck in their head like I do! And remember the good times.

I’m faithfully following the elimination diet the doctor prescribed. Despite my antiauthoritarian tendencies, I’m staying on track. And counting the seconds until it’s over.

And I swear I must be going nuts! Anyone who would eat turkey sausage by her own free will is loony enough to chase cars and bark at the moon! Totally certifiable!

I’m adding LOTS of spices and it still tasted as disgusting as it looked. But I WILL bully through this! In the picture, the green stuff is avocado. Not a good choice in this instance. Didn’t improve the flavor a lick!!!

Keeps me from eating much, so I guess it serves me well.

And how in the world can a person turn cat vomit into a Bible lesson? Just read on!

Do you remember Jonah was swallowed by a large sea creature? Then ‘the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.’ He finally did what God told him to do and his efforts were successful as the people of Nineveh turned to God. Jonah wasn’t particularly thrilled with the results and pouted. The book of Jonah ends on that note. But it is an interesting story of disobedience vs. obedience and God’s mercy and compassion for all.

Another example of those who weren’t doing what God wanted them to do were the leaders in Judah who refused God’s commands. Isaiah 28:7-8 describes them as reeling with wine and staggering with strong drink which distorted their thinking and caused them to err in judgment. ‘For all tables are full of filthy vomit, with no space left.’ Not the kind of spiritual leader I would prefer or want to be for sure!

The Message version tells a New Testament spin on living opposed to God’s truth in 2 Peter. ‘If they’ve escaped from the slum of sin by experiencing our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ, and then slid back into that same old life again, they’re worse than if they had never left. Better not to have started out on the straight road to God than to start out and then turn back, repudiating the experience and the holy command. They proved the point of the proverbs, ‘A dog goes back to its own vomit’ and ‘A scrubbed-up pig heads for the mud.’

But Peter gives guidance toward the end of the book. He urged them to ‘be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless.’ Perhaps The Message says it in a way that’s easier to understand – ‘do your very best to be found living at your best, in purity and peace.’

And all is based on our willingness to ‘grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.’

Grow on!

Things to think about. For me anyway.

Blessings

Kara Beth
