End of the Year Ooops!

The two pictures I am posting show my reality.

I’d like to say I got older and wiser over the past year, but Alas! I definitely got older but wiser – NOT! Mindful and careful movements are still actions which are NOT in my wheelhouse!

Bless my heart! As always (most always anyway) my intentions are good. There are reasons for my actions.

Like the playing cards.

Ronald and I play ‘Hudd Rummy’. Many times a week we play for the Championship of the World. We usually have three decks which will prove who is the better (or luckier) player. For ease and neatness, we store them in the original boxes which we cut in half.

Our cards had gotten really nasty, mostly because we usually play while we have a meal. Needless to say, I have spilled many bits  of food on the cards, and yes, well … whole glasses of drink on the cards’ predecessors.

Ronald found new decks for $1 a piece! They are butt-ugly in their simplicity with not an interesting face card amongst them, but considering my track record, they will last until my next spill.

I took the fresh cards from the pack to prepare the first box, I wasn’t careful. No surprise there. What surprised me was the partial ace that fell on the counter after I sliced through the box. I’ve  never destroyed cards quite that way before. No worries –  we still have 3 decks left.

In addition to the card bargain, we stopped at Kohl’s where I picked up my new sweaters which I paid for with Kohl’s cash.

Bless the sweater’s heart, rather neckline. I hate tags in the back of shirts or sweaters. To remove them, I got my handy dandy ripper and plucked the threads from the itchy little rascals.

I can understand why manufacturers put tags on outfits. But for the life of me, I do not know why they insist on securing them sturdier than the actual garment’s seams!

I plucked and ripped, lifting and slicing each little thread. Lo and behold, the end thread had secured itself around one of the sweater yarns. I didn’t realize until too late I had cut through the yarn. It necessitated darning the dern piece before I ever got to wear the thing.

I stitched the hole before I followed the instructions to ‘wash the garment before wearing.’ Is that weird? I never saw that direction before that I can remember. What in the world is on or in the cloth that they need me to wash it first? I’ll redo the mend after the sweater’s baptism.

Maybe the sweaters aren’t such a bargain after all.

How can I possibly turn this into an object lesson? Easily.

How often do the bad things, aka sins, of my life get embedded so deeply in my life that I find it hard to remove them? Of course, Jesus does the removing, but I do have choices and must be intentional about recognizing and admitting my faults. With humility, I must ask God’s forgiveness. With due diligence, I must set my mind and heart on following God’s Word and its Truth.

The Complete Jewish Bible says in Proverbs 4:23, ‘Above everything else, guard your heart; for it is the source of life’s consequences.

The Message version verses 23-27 elaborate. ‘Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. … Keep you eyes straight ahead; … Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. … leave evil in the dust.’

Blessings

Kara Beth
