The Rest of the Story
Do y’all remember Paul Harvey? He started a program then at the end said, ‘And this is the rest of the story.’
The featured image is the rest of my story.
The stitches in my back had become very itchy. The time finally arrived for me to go back to the office for their removal. I will once again recommend to the locals the Premier Dermatology and Mohs Surgery of Atlanta. Totally wonderful people!
Anyway.
The slice and dice had been sealed up beautifully by Dr. Taylor, and I’m sure it will look much better in a few weeks. But in the meantime, it is an interesting picture. All those little dots on either side of the scar are where the stitches were removed. Though hard to see, they are little holes. I was assured the places would heal up quickly now that the stitches are out. In the meantime, I’m not going swimming for a few days and am supposed to take it easy.
I suppose that means no hauling around boxes of Christmas ornaments I put away yesterday. Oops! I guess I obeyed that directive as much as I did the hip doctor’s instructions a few years ago. Nothing hurts or popped open, so I guess I’m good to go.
But of course, no wound is worth the effort if an object lesson doesn’t come to mind.
So.
Bunny Trail!
After the horrible presentation of my yearly New Year’s Object Lesson for my family in which I applied its truths WAY too personally to my own sweet self, I am going to make this object lesson seem like a general truth. (Even though it has been prodding my mind and heart all day.)
Back to the rest of the story.
We all have wounds. As we commit those injuries to God’s healing hand, we still may struggle as we allow the Holy Spirit to put our lives back together. The process of emotional healing is not always a quick fix. The paths we travel toward our healing may cause some itchy discomfort. The time it takes us to heal properly as we wrestle with letting go of the past and learn to cope with the challenges of accepting our future reality – well, let’s face it! It’s a real pain in the backside! There is no getting back to ‘normal’ as we trust God with our lives. There is a road He wants us to travel with Him. What awaits is a journey of healing and peace that only He can give.
Here’s the Truth of it all.
‘He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.’ Psalm 147:3 ESV
‘You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.’ Psalm 16:11 ESV
And the finale to His healing.
‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’ Revelation 21:4 ESV
