December Musings

We ancients have been analyzing the year 2025.

I’m going to think some more before I post much.

I will tell you however about this last few days of Christmas week. Of course, being with our ‘littles’ as they showed us their new toys was super special. But I’ve got to tell of a few events that touched my heart.

I got to help with child care during one of the Christmas Eve services. Other than getting on and off a chair which was about a foot high, I had a great time! I have so missed being around little people in that kind of setting. They are so sweet!

And I fell in love! We only had 5 in our class of second graders. The first three came in early and were told to do a ‘find a picture’ coloring activity. As they did that, I got to talk to Silas, Aiden, and Abigail. So precious!!! Aiden with the big blue eyes smiled at me and melted my heart. Abigail was a perfect little lady. When I told shy Silas I had a grandson named Silas, he came closer. I showed him a video of my Silas playing the guitar. His eyes lit up, and he whispered, ‘I’m learning to play guitar.’ Precious!

I had brought my little harp and let them each strum it. They continued to color while I played. Oh, my goodness! I could have taken them all home!

All too soon the class leader and the other assistant came back into the room and escorted us out for the large group activity. When we went back into the room for another activity, I played softly as they played ‘pin the ornament on a tree’ while they were blindfolded.

I don’t know if I can physically volunteer on a regular basis, but I’m sure thinkin’ on it! The experience was surely one of the highlights of the past few days.

As I wrote this, I was humming the song, Jesus Loves the Little Children.

And so do I.

The other fun thing about the last few days was a new toy.

The head honcho stopped by Christmas Day to wish us a Merry Christmas. He told me the company had purchased a grand piano for the assisted living facility, and I was free to play it any time I wanted.

So

Yesterday, I played Christmas songs.

Today, Ronald was watching football so I went down and played hymns. I had mentioned to a neighbor what I was going to do, and she joined me. Together, we sang and worshipped as I played the old hymns of the church. And cried happy tears.

Two special moments in two days.

That’s some good stuff!

2 Thessalonians 3:16 is a prayer I felt and as the year winds down, I trust you will believe it and be blessed.

‘Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.’

Blessings

Kara Beth
