Overrated
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again!
Exercise is so overrated!!!
Well, maybe not the exercise itself. My early morning swim here at the old people place was great. The warm water pool is a refreshing antidote to tight and achy muscles. But since I get a wee bit clumsy these days, especially when I am tired, I’ve been using my rolling chair to get me from place to place – and it has a great place to carry my swim bag and all the paraphernalia I take forth and back.
It’s cold as a well digger’s destination here, so I bundle up in three layers over my swim suit as I head to the pool. On the way back, I wrap a very large beach towel around me, followed by the three layers with the hood to one of the jackets tightly over my wet head. I kinda remind myself of a bag lady.
The only thing that stays a wee bit cold is my feet. I wear swim sandals there and back. Therein lies the problem. My old lady toes are exposed to the elements along with certain and miscellaneous perils as I quickly wend my way homeward.
When I am fatigued after swimming or any other time, my right foot turns outward a bit. Yesterday, as I hustled home in the cold, I wasn’t concentrating enough on my foot position and WHAM! That toe slammed into the wheel of my walker. Ouch!
I iced the thing until we headed for our oldest granddaughter’s graduation activities. Thankfully, we have a handicap sticker and were able to pull close to the first venue. At the second, the university provided escort from parking to special chairs where I didn’t have to walk up and down to stadium seating.
So today’s agenda may not include much walking. I plan on sewing, but I may have to use the left foot for the machine’s pedal. We’ll see.
So how can I possibly twist my injury caused by extreme clumsiness into a spiritual object lesson?
🎵 Doesn’t take me long to think of a corresponding song – ‘Oh be careful little feet where you go’ 🎵 ‘For the Father up above is looking down in love, So be careful little feet where you go!’🎵
Seriously, the Father was looking out for me. I could have tripped or caught my long swim dress and heavy robe in the wheel and fallen onto the unyielding cement. As it was not yet six in the morning and Ronald was walking on the other side of the lake, it would have been a while before he or anyone else would have been around to help me up. Had I fallen, my phone would have been out of reach.
So as I always say, God takes care of children, fools, and women drivers – even if they are only driving a little 4 wheel rollator.
More importantly, God takes care of His children (and old ladies) when they fall spiritually. No person can behave or think in perfect righteousness all the time. But even when we trip up, God provides His mercy and grace to redeem our failures. Psalm 37:23-24 NKJV says, ‘The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.’
I could add a bajillion other verses, but I’m going to take time this morning to think on that one. And be most thankful.
Be Blessed
Kara Beth
