Missed It By That Much
Oops! Dern multitasking got me again!
We had our Friendsgiving Celebration here at the old people’s place about a week ago. The event was well attended and as usual, my handy dandy phone camera was busy throughout the day. We ancients had fun and got into the spirit of the day.

Even during the days we decorated, we got some great shots.

As I anticipated my oldest granddaughter’s wedding, all those festivities, and the party here, I thought I needed one of those little printers that print on the spot. So, I got me one. It took me and another resident a few hours of figuring before we sort of got how to use it. It took another hour or so to figure out how to consistently have a picture in hand in a timely fashion.
It is a much slower process than I intended, so I was unable to print pictures for everyone at the party. I had the brilliant idea to make a ‘proof sheet’ from which people could choose the print they wanted. I posted the few I was able to print at the event, printed several sheets of edited pictures, and displayed them on a table with instructions how to order pics for themselves. Only one person did that.
Plan B. I decided to take time to duplicate the pictures in quantities equal to the number of people in each scene. All went well, but the process moved along slowly. I also had the brilliant idea to play Sequence with Ronald while the machine did its work and I sliced the proof sheets to share with everyone.
Needless to say, that was doing way too much at once. The image above shows the truth of it. I needed to concentrate during the slicing and dicing.
The result was, I missed the proper cutting place by about an inch. Do you remember the famous phrase from Get Smart? Yep. I missed it by that much! Most of the pictures would have been okay, but Zke and Becky lost their heads in the process.
Multitasking mishaps are definitely a problem for me. I would like to blame old age at this point, but since I’ve always had that problem, I’ll just say it’s one of my many personality traits.
But as usual, I got to thinking.
How many times do I start out with really good intentions and fail to follow through because I get bored with the project? Or I get tired of helping others and start doing another project or my own thing? Or like a poorly trained hunting dog, I get distracted? Or I just say, ‘Yes, I’ll do that,’ when I should have said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m already overly committed.’
I think doing one thing well instead of half a dozen things halfway has been an issue all my life. Maybe I’ll make focusing my goal in the new year. Or maybe I’ll be better about doing one thing at a time when I grow up.
The verses in Ecclesiastes 3 give me pause this morning. ‘To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.’
The singular ‘purpose’ should be the lesson of the day for me. I think I may give that a try. But that, my friends, is a huge problem in itself.
BORING! UGH!
Anyway.
