Two Roads Diverged

You know the poem by Robert Frost about the road he didn’t take? For fear of copyright issues, I won’t quote it, but the gist is there were two roads. He took one but maybe wondered what would have happened had he taken the other way.

Well, let me tell you what! Me and the old man went to Callaway Gardens the other day, and I know exactly what the other road was! The correct one!

We had our first house showing and had to be gone for several hours. We drove a different route (by mistake) and ended up on a road we hadn’t ever been on in our twenty years in this area. The road led us along a ridge that was in reality quite breathtaking with deep forested ravines on either side of the road.

So far, so good. We had plenty of gas and plenty of time.

We dawdled over lunch at our favorite restaurant in Pine Mountain – San Marcos. Again. Good deal. Delicious!

Since I can’t find our membership cards because I can’t remember where I packed them, it took us a while to get in the gate at Callaway. Again. No harm, no foul.

Then.

Buck Boone, aka Ronald, decided to park in a lot he felt was the better choice for us to easily walk in to see the Azalea Bowl. There’s where the trouble began.

We crossed the road from the parking lot. Within twenty feet or so, there were two lanes going to what we assumed were to the azaleas. Bless his heart. Ronald chose the left hand pathway. I followed, alternately waddling and plodding along behind.

Now, it was a nice day.

To start with.

However!

By the time we went around this curve, and up this hill and down the other, my heart was racing. I felt like my lungs were exploding as I huffed and puffed with each laborious step! And folks! I was not only glistening, I was sweating like a pig! Totally against my religion!

SO

Instead of taking the path that led straight into the garden area, we completed the hike from you know where half way around the dern garden!

Now, even with all that it wouldn’t have been so bad except the Azalea Bowl was at least two weeks past prime. There were very few bushes with blooms worth looking at. My neighbors’ azaleas are way more impressive than what we saw.

I took a few pictures and called it even. I would have liked to go to the butterfly center, but Buck Boone wanted to go on home. Which is just is well. I would have found at least three things at the gift shop I couldn’t live without. Which would have been packed up anyway with the rest of my ‘junk.’

It wasn’t really that bad a day. Mostly.

And as always, I thought about our day afterward and looked for an applicable spiritual lesson.

We have yet to start looking up north for a place. I know and seriously believe I don’t need to worry about our future. It’s just the choosing the right path thing that has me wondering. Not that I have my panties in a knot or anything. Like my daddy would have said, ‘Everything is gonna turn out all right, Kar’Bethy.’ I know it will, but are you like I am? Do you wish God would give a road map and write a detailed list of specific instructions to lead to the right place in the shortest and EASIEST manner possible?

Yeah, right! Not happenin’!

If you are like I am, these verses may be an encouragement.

Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight.’

Psalm 32:8  ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.’

Deuteronomy 31:8  ‘The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will not leave or forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.’

Yep. God doesn’t get lost. He’s got this.

Blessings
