Idle Hands

Mama always said her mama always said, ‘Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.’ If that is true, Mama definitely worked in the other factory!!!

I was going through old photo albums yesterday and found one of Mom’s that catalogued some of her many crafts. The sheer numbers of items she recorded was amazing. As a member of the local Home Extension, she participated in making quilts that were then raffled off for charitable causes.

Every year she would enter items into the fair. I don’t know how many things she entered, but this picture showed just one year of ribbons.

Fun bunnies and dolls were her passion one year.

Other years found her crocheting blankets … almost to her dying day!

Back in the day, Mama made a cousin’s daughter this outfit which Josie now sports proudly as she heads for Sunday School.

I know Mama loved doing her crafts and projects as much as I do. She was certainly more diligent than I ever thought of being, but I hope I am carrying on a wee bit of her legacy, which she had received from her mother, who had been handed down skills from her mother.

Memory lane. Katharses.

Like the Proverbs 31 woman, Mama willingly worked with her hands. More importantly she was like that ideal woman in that she feared the Lord.

That, too, she passed down. May I follow her example in that as well.

Blessings

Kara Beth
