Study First? Nah!
You’d think as old as I am I would be smarter. Where is the wisdom that is supposed to come along with my ‘maturity?’ Bless my heart!
U-Turn
For years I have nagged students about learning the basics. Unless God has granted a person an exceptional musical ear and ability, the rest of us needed to learn the basics before we could play an instrument. If I had a quarter for every time I scolded someone about not bothering to learn the notes, I’d take a cruise!

So, we are moving. If I had my way, I would build a house from scratch…rather have someone else build it according to my design. At the least, I will probably need to refigure and remodel any house we purchase. My opinion, not Ronald’s, and surely not the opinion of my children who say I am much too old to start that sort of project. Nice kids, right?
Anyway…I have enjoyed messing around with home design for at least the last thirty years. Probably longer if you consider how I used to tear out carpeting while Ronald was at school and throw it outside in the driveway. Or the basement paneling. Or the ceiling tiles. Remodeling and home design is my thwarted, underdeveloped gifting – according to me.
I took classes at a local junior college before we retired – way back in the day when you drew everything by hand. Mercy!
Like I said, I’ve enjoyed playing around with design software and recently upgraded to a newer version of Chief Architect. It is a very user friendly program and very detailed. Of course, I would be better at using it if #1 I had a better understanding of the total building process. More importantly, I would be a better designer IF #2 I read the directions and watched the videos first!!!
Sad to say, I neglected to use the brains and experience the Good Lord gave me! I wanted to jump in and design everything quickly with no studying involved. Didn’t work out so well. The wonderfully sweet and patient technical support people at Chief Architect answered my questions and made sure my computer was accepting the software. I had told them I was a crazy old lady, so they understood my issues. After several phone calls for help, they wisely suggested I review the training videos before I continue. VERY wise advice! I’ve been watching and rewatching the lessons hours on end!
If and when I get a real plan made, I’ll try to post it. In the meantime, I’ll have fun learning and pretending.

You know me and my blogs. I have to have a spiritual application or I’ve wasted the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. I couldn’t find any Bible verses about keeping from being a big dummy. As I looked up verses, I brought up one I’ve used before – way too often! Though in context it is talking about spiritual matters, it does apply in part to my issues – which may be in part spiritual – you know, the old stubborn pride thing that repeatedly trips me up. 1 Corinthians 14:40 TLB reminds me to ‘be sure that everything is done properly in a good and orderly way.’ Bingo! That’s the Truth for sure!
But my new favorite verse is Proverbs 14:1 ESV, ‘The wisest of women builds her house.’
Yep! Until Someone else shows me differently, I’ll take that verse to heart!
Blessings
