Patience

Did you ever wonder what patience looks like? This is it, folks!

If nothing else, this moving prep is providing abundant fodder for my blogs. The wall I’m showing above is usually covered by my tile artwork. No way am I leaving it for the buyer!

However, it necessitates refinishing the wall behind the art. Initially, I had tried to glue the tiles to the wall directly. Finding that did not work, I tried using sheets of double sticky paper to arrange the tiles. That didn’t work either. I finally got a piece of glass onto which I found the tiles could easily be arranged as desired. To make the piece more solid, I attached a piece of wood and a wooden frame around it. I painted a strip of dark bluish green around the top edge of the wall.

The artwork did not directly attach to the wall itself, but the trial glue, double sticky paper, and paint stayed firmly hidden behind the art.

Until today.

We are working on getting the living room painted. I took down my art which revealed the disaster I had forgotten about. Greased Lightning, cooking oil, a blow dryer, paper towels, and lots of PATIENCE are involved in the process of removing the junk. Oh yeah, and one of those scraper things painters use.

Step by painful step the gunk is slowly coming off. At this point, I figure I am about an eighth of the way through, and Ronald insisted I rest for a few minutes. He got no argument from me! Of course, when he gets dizzy and lightheaded from painting and I suggest he rest, he ignores me. Men!!!

I need patience for that as well. But since I’ve had 53 years of patiently having him ignore my sage advice, I figure it’s just another typical day in the lives of the old coots.

It’s interesting – the patience thing. There are many listings of things the believer is to do. Most include patience.

In Ephesians 4:1 and 2 Paul urges them ‘to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.’

Romans 12:12 says, ‘Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.’ What I am doing definitely qualifies as tribulation.

Colossians 3:12 has another list. ‘Put on them as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness and patience.’

And lastly from Ecclesiastes 7:8 – ‘Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.’

Better yet is the solution of the day – have Samantha our superhero helper finish it!

Blessings

Kara Beth
