Pink Goo and Sanders!

Okay. I’ve been a wee bit grumpy about my walls and shelves being stripped of every lovely thing I own.

Until a little bit ago.

An early morning run to Home Depot for paint and other necessities began the next step in our moving process. I got to get some new tools to help clean/refurbish the kitchen cabinets.

I bought some fresh pink goo, aka spackle. I globbed it all over with wild abandon. Nearly every wall had something hot glued on it or holes for art work – which means after the goo dries, I get to use my handy, dandy sander. Yay!

I used screw drivers to remove my light switch plates decorated by my grandkids. I’ll put up some boring plain ones I will purchase on my next buying spree to Home Depot.

I wish I could think of a way to use my blow torch. I love that thing!

At this minute however, I am sitting on a heating pad trying to sooth my poor, hurting backside and hips. Too many trips outside to the storage unit, climbing the big ladder and step ladder, and bending to pick up things I dropped has me in need of rest. As I stepped up on the big ladder I prayed I wouldn’t fall! How would I explain to Dr. Brcka and the wonderful folks at Piedmont I had an accident when I was told specifically to get help with the move? But since the doctor was talking about packing and moving boxes, maybe a clumsy fall would be excused. Boxes and ladders are two drastically different things.

We couldn’t stand to paint over our kids’ growth chart that has adorned our living room walls since forever. We are taking the memory thanks to a plexiglass replica.

I’ve been watching all sorts of YouTube videos on remodeling and staging houses to get more bang for the buck. I swear! Those stagers put up the most boring artwork in the universe! My girls say I have to make the house a plain palette so a potential buyer can imagine their own things there. Though I am following their advice, all I can say is if you don’t have enough imagination to remodel a house to your own taste, you need to retake ‘Imagination 101!’

As I look around from my soft perch, all I see is a giant mess in every direction. Mercy! But I’m not going to do any cleaning until Saturday evening. We will be working in short spurts in the meantime as old people are prone to do, but we’ll get ‘er done – eventually.

An interesting verse from TLB Proverbs 24:3-4 says, ‘Any enterprise is built by wise planning, becomes strong through common sense, and profits wonderfully by keeping abreast of the facts.’

The New King James Version says it this way, ‘Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.’

At this point everything from every room is in boxes in the storage shed. And isn’t it funny that nothing is said of the hard work to build a house?

I’m keeping abreast of the facts – the fact is both me and the old man are whooped!

Blessings

Kara Beth
