Bloopers or Blogging?
In my case, technically blogging is usually a direct result of my bloopering. Which is probably due to a basic flaw in my character. Following a recipe or sewing instructions is way too boring for me.
I had to laugh hysterically at this ad for Fleischmann’s Yeast. Obviously, they didn’t have me as a cook in their test kitchen! I used to try to make Grandma Hudd’s yeast rolls. No matter how closely I followed the recipe, somewhere along the way I missed her magic touch. Have you ever tasted a hockey puck?
Instead of writing my stupid stories or my ‘True Confessional Blogs’, I have been finishing up more trees of life. Then of course, there’s the mess to clean up afterward. I’m still working on that end of the project.
But I got sidetracked and started making some really cute Christmas ornaments to give as gifts.
I haven’t cross-stitched in years because of my eyesight and forgot about this fun pastime until the other day. I realized now that I had eye surgery last year, I could do this! So I sorted through boxes (another mess for another day), and I hauled out some old patterns. I had stashed supplies and kept them since – who knows the last time I used that stuff? Anyway, I found everything I needed to make the cutest boy and girl angels.

But then my imagination took a spin – caused by a creative tornado I think. And so far, they have turned out like this …
I couldn’t handle doing white on white like the pattern called for and the person I am making it for likes green. I think she’ll be pleased with it.
Then my creativity went completely bonkers. What was I thinking?

I was trying for a plaid shirt for the boy angel. I have no idea what it will be like when and if I finish it! But again, the white on white of the original pattern was too difficult and red and white stripes…just didn’t work for me. I think I will limit my creativity to solids on the next one. No tellin’ what it’ll look like when I’m done.
IF I get it done! I keep getting the threads tangled up – and I haven’t even started the metallic thread on the boy one. Mercy!
But, like I said. It’s fun. I’m not up to making some outrageously elegant angel costumes for some church’s play this year, so I’ll take my Christmas creativity and apply it on little gifts. Even with my mistakes, they are going to be cute. I hope.
I never guarantee perfect results every time. I’m too old for that kind of nonsense and have made a lifetime’s worth of ‘close, but no cigar’ kind of projects. But if I have fun, at my age, that’ll have to do!
Ephesians 2:10 NLT says, ‘For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.’
I hope He plans on helping me. I want to make at least 10 more ornaments. We’ll see.
In the meantime, I’m just going to be thankful I can see to do this sort of stuff again. And thank the Lord for the patience He’ll have to provide.
Have a blessed week,
Kara Beth
