Wacky Will

In 1640, George Herbert wrote, ‘To him that wills, ways are not wanting.’  By 1820, the phrase had become ‘where there’s a will there’s a way.’ ***

The updated version of the phrase according to yours truly is, ‘Where there is a wacky woman, things get done!’

I am getting pretty bored. I’ve got 4 trees of life totally finished and 4 more nearly done. I’ve read more fiction than I have in years and decided I don’t like to read because doing that reminds me what a poor writer I am. Very depressing.

My other consistent activity during recuperation has been crosswords. I do some on the computer, but doing actual books is more satisfying, just like reading a book is nicer than reading something on the computer. (In my opinion anyway.) Since I keep flying through my crossword puzzle books, I decided to make it more challenging by filling in the squares using my left hand instead of the dominant right hand.

I think since I am a pianist and a pretty good typist, it isn’t as hard as I believed it would be. But it’s supposed to be good for the brain and creativity. We’ll see. It does slow down the process for sure.

My cousin and his wife are coming to visit tomorrow. I can’t get the house up to snuff, but I can stash a few things where they belong.  The first problem keeping me from doing that is I cannot get up and walk items to their proper place. The second problem has been that I can’t stroll around in the wheelchair and hold things in my hands.

I have learned to tuck smaller items between my waist brace and me. If I am wearing a skirt, I can put things in my lap, fold the end of the skirt into the waist brace, and scoot the item into another room.

Some things need a wee bit more creativity to stow properly. The Tupperware container above had been sitting on the counter for several days. I decided it was time to move it. Since I’m wearing pants not a skirt, I needed another idea. I couldn’t hold the edge with my teeth either. I guess I could have tucked it under my sweatsuit top, but I didn’t think of that until this very minute.

So – like all the old pictures of Johnny Appleseed, I used my head as a luggage rack. As long as I had it on the back of my head and my head tilted down, I managed it.

Hey! You gotta find victories in the small things, right?

However – My independent nature does not always insure success but results in other messes.

I am blaming that one on the wheelchair, not my driving skills.

Sadly, it’s not the first time I’ve knocked over that wastebasket. It’s right next to my recliner where I sat for the last six weeks. When I try to use my ‘grabber’ to set it aright, I invariably drop the whole thing and its contents. I try, but my creative muse has not provided me with a reasonable solution. Since I can’t walk for another two days, I’ll let Ronald worry with it this time.

1 Corinthians 14:40 says everything should be done in a good and orderly way. Though it refers to churchy things, it is good advice whether we are talking about housekeeping, daily life, or our spiritual walk with God. (See ###below.)

I hope you tap into your own creativity to do what is needful in a practical sense, but may you also be determined to do what God wants you to do.

Blessings

Kara Beth
