R. I. P.
Ronald and I get the giggles. I think sometimes God does too.
Every night Ronald patiently gets my room ready for me to go to bed. Many nights, I get all tucked in and need one more thing. I call out and interrupt his watching the Braves’ game. Despite his preoccupation with that important matter, he sweetly comes in and adjusts things to make sure everything I need is in place and set exactly right. Then he takes my hand and says a prayer of thanks for the day we’ve had and a prayer of blessing for the night.
Last night’s prayer was hysterical! It began well but when he got to asking the Lord to bless my sleep, he said, ‘And Lord, please let her rest in peace.’
At which point I interrupted loudly, ‘Lord, he meant have a peaceful rest. At least, that’s what I hope he means!’
We busted out laughing and never did get to finish the prayer.
We were still giggling this morning. Ronald said he wished he had artistic skills. He’d draw a picture of God the Father with His finger on the ‘take her out’ button and Jesus holding His arm and saying, ‘that’s not what he meant!’
I teased him about his comment being a Freudian slip, but since I’m not sure I’m categorizing that correctly, I’ll just say he had good intentions, but the Braves were winning and he needed to hurry back to make sure they didn’t lose again.
Seriously, he’s getting the bad end of the whole ‘better or worse’ vow. Every day, all day and half the night, he faithfully performs the necessaries with his usual teasing spirit and determination. I’m very blessed and extremely thankful.
Know any caregivers out there?
Say a prayer for them. Think of some way to lift their spirits or make life easier for them.
2 Corinthians 9:7 talks about giving which I think also applies to acts of service. ‘Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.’
Luke 6:45 says a good person out of the ‘good treasure of his heart’ produces good.
I want to say a big thank you to my hero who makes me laugh.
Thanks to all caregivers. May you find joy in knowing you are acting as the hands of God.
Blessings
Kara Beth
