Doin’ My Time

Seventeen days until I’m free of my constant companion, an ingenious, but uncomfortable bit of orthopedic torture I wear.

Eighteen days until I once again am a biped. At least I hope the doctor gives me clearance. This hopping around only putting ‘toe weight’ on my bad foot calls for more coordination and strength than I can manage. I was told to think of ‘no more weight than it takes to smash a grape beneath your toes.’ I can tell you what! This little fat girl could destroy a watermelon with the weight I have been putting on that foot!

In the meantime, I’ve knocked out three crossword puzzle books since my surgery and finished another Mrs. Pollifax book today. I finished two tree of life sculptures since my surgery, have three more in the works, and got a good way on another today. I hope to have several to give away as gifts to those who have cared for me recently as well as getting some done for my grandkids.

Don’t know if anyone will like them, but making them keeps me busy. Keeps Ronald busy cleaning up beads I spill. Better than the painting I have planned for next week.

I started making the sculptures several years ago in response to a former Sunday School teacher’s lessons on the tree of life. I had written an accompanying challenge to go with all my trees and continue to give them out along with the sculptures. I hope this adequately reflects Jennifer’s teaching and the truth of God’s word.

The Tree of Life alludes to man’s dilemma from the beginning of time.

Every day, we are given opportunities to choose God’s eternity

or to question God’s authority.

Every day within the framework of free will,

we have the opportunity to choose the things that will

lead us closer to Christ – or further away.

Our choices affect the present and reach into others’ lives for eternity.

May we always desire to be guided by the Hand of God

And have the strength of will to choose from

The Tree of Life.

I was particularly influenced by the idea that personal choices have a ripple effect. What I do or don’t do can mean the difference between someone finding joy and peace in Christ – or not. Thought provoking responsibility, don’t you think?

Anyway. I’m keeping out of mischief, mostly, sometimes, occasionally. As long as I don’t try to help Ronald too much and get the wheelchair stuck between the cabinets in the kitchen.

Proverbs 11:30 NKJV. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.

May it be so.

Blessings

Kara Beth
