Self-Identifying

I usually self-identify as a mature, sophisticated woman of extreme wisdom.

Of course, those descriptions are pretty delusional.

But this is a statement of fact. While most little girls wanted to be some princess, I found the role of a fairy godmother much more appealing.

Can you imagine what it would be like to make everyone’s story end happily ever after?

Through the years, I have dressed up as a fairy godmother at Halloween and on Disney cruises. I love the sparkles and general idea of it.

A while back however, I had a revelation. My idea of ‘happily ever after’ for someone and their idea of perfect happiness would be two different things. I gave up wishing I could be a fairy godmother.

The main epiphany was total truth compared to my fantasy. Only God can bring our lives the true happy ever after. When we trust in God to be our true Leader and Guide, we will still have conflicts within the outline of our life-plots. In the overall structure of our existance, God can bring peace into those places in our lives where we see no end of suffering. God can give much needed wisdom and hope amid our problems. Ultimately, if we believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we will be blessed with a truly happy ever after in heaven forever.

As I face another slice and dice this week, my happily ever after has a really big bump in the road. All I can say is, ‘Ouch!!!’ Having been through this surgery on the other hip, I know what is ahead. I am pretty sure there is a happy ever after in about 5 months.

But!!!

In the meantime-

I’ve had a nice time bringing a pretty cake to my doctor’s office.

Tomorrow I get to bring this lovely cake to the surgical staff. What fun! It makes me look forward to the day a wee bit knowing that several people will find the cake as delightful as I do. Ingles’ cake makers made the prettiest cake ever!!! It makes me happy to show how much I appreciate those who have to clean up the blood and guts after the surgery and put up with me and my moans and groans. I may not be giving a ‘happy ever after’ to people, but maybe just a tiny smile on a few faces is worth it.

Numbers 6:24-26 in the New King James Version expresses a special blessing I pray for all who have to deal with me the next few days. ‘The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.’

Blessings

Kara Beth
