OOOPS!!!
Chalk it up to another Kara Bethism. I’m sure the Lord understands and loves me anyway despite my goof ups and silliness. But I figure He did another head palm today when He heard my mealtime prayer.
I had given the usual thanks for God’s blessing us with another nice day and prayed the usual blessings on the kids and grandkids. I asked God to help us be a blessing to anyone and everyone we were around today. Again, the usual. And all very legitimate.
However, I think my benediction left God shaking His head in wonder. But I hope He got at least a little giggle out of it.
Instead of a serious ‘Amen’ or whatever, without thinking I told God to ‘Have a good one!’
Hardly appropriate, and our response to my special ending resulted in us roaring with laughter – well, make that me anyway. Ronald just smiled and shook his head.
Thing is, I didn’t mean any disrespect and since God knows my heart, I guess my comment was okay.
When I got to thinking about my phrase, I decided that it would be something I would say to a friend. And being as how Jesus is my Special Friend, I think He can handle my wishes for Him to have a good day. It is a blessing I would give without hesitation as I thought on my intention.
Then I got to thinking of verses and songs about blessing the Lord. The study site, Got Questions.org, gave me some insight on that very issue. It’s worth reading all of it, but I’ll just plagiarize a wee bit. Blessing the Lord is found primarily in the Old Testament and was an often repeated admonition to acknowledge God. Apparently it means to praise, worship, and appreciate Him for all His wonderful attributes.
How about the verses in Psalms 34:1-3 KJV? ‘I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: The humble shall hear thereof and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.’
Some of my favorite hymns and praise and worship songs are about blessing the Lord.
So…
I guess today’s benediction wasn’t too far off because like when I say the phrase to friends and family, I mean it as a prayer for them to be blessed. Though God doesn’t need the same kind of blessing, He loves my praise.
And He loves me!
And You!
Have a good one and take time to bless the Lord.
Blessings
Kara Beth
