Fallin’ In Love
Do you ever go to a store and without intending to, you just fall in?
In case you don’t know what I mean, take Ronald for example. He goes into a grocery store and our list with five things written on it becomes a heaping basket of items!
Back in the day, I could fall in at a material store without blinkin’ an eye. Mercy! If I had a quarter of what I spent on patterns and cloth, I would take me and the old man on a cruise!
I’ve been pretty good lately. I have been cleaning drawers with wild abandon with the proceeds going to the thrift store. My Swedish Death Purge has divested my bookshelves of my beautiful children’s books. Sometimes, it is almost too much to bear, but I’m determined to share them with a few special friends and family.
However…
This past weekend we went to Dahlonega to see our oldest grandson. While exploring the quaint little town, we happened upon a bookstore. I knew Ronald and Wesley would each want some books. I was sure I would find nothing I needed.
Wrong!
I am a sucker for kid’s books and went straight to the properly labeled section. Have you ever fallen in love at first sight? Has a dress, or a pair of shoes, some gaudy earrings, or even a cupcake caught your eye and you just had to have it?
I fell in love at first glance. The set of books was on a shelf in front of me right at eye level. I knew without even looking inside them, those books were to be mine! Though the covers were scuffed and yellowed with age, they looked as if they had never been read!
Yes, it was love at first sight. When I started looking through the books, I had to have them!

How could I possibly resist the traditional tales, poetry, and knowledge?
With each classic illustration, I was more enamored.
I needed them all!
And it was cheaper if I bought the whole set…SO….I totally fell in!
I’ve been reading them already. A short story by Oscar Wilde brought tears to my eyes. A poem by an unknown author made me laugh. Some of the articles made me think about how the world has changed in the 67 years since the books were first published.
All are worthwhile results of an impulse purchase. In my opinion anyway.
Someday, those books will grace another’s bookshelf, but they will have all been read by me to myself and hopefully read to some of the grandkids.
I will enjoy my ‘new old’ books. What can I learn from them? What new thoughts will I have as a result of reading them?
Though reading those books is not as important as reading the Scriptures it will be fun. Reading and knowing the Bible is much more valuable. Here are two verses to prove my point.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Romans 15:4 ESV For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Last thought…
What are we reading? Watching? Thinking about? With what are we falling in love?
Blessings
Kara Beth
