Gifted!
Yep. After all these years I have found my true gifting! Here’s the scoop. I am the Queen of Mishaps. With a side helping of clueless. A truly perfect combination. Or a disastrous one waiting to happen.
If it can be messed up, I can make that happen! Sometimes in a second flat!
Take for instance tonight’s loading of the dishwasher. I tossed a spoon toward the silverware tray on the bottom shelf. It somehow bounced across the top of the tray and flew onto the floor beyond. ‘Clean up on aisle 4’ as they say, and needless to say, the Braves aren’t calling me up for a pitching position tryout.
Last night I worked on the 1000 piece puzzle I am sorry to say will probably take me at least a month to do. The pieces are amazingly small. Argh! I had finished the outer edge which is my modus operandi. As I reached for another piece, somehow most of the bottom edge and one side skidded to the floor. How that happened, I do not know! I was on the other side of the table!
I was proud of myself though. I didn’t scream, cry, or use my plumber’s language. But I refused to pick up those pieces until this morning! If those rascals chose to fall, they had to stay there until I was good and ready to retrieve them!
Which brings me to another proof of my clueless gifting. I know what a ham is. I know what a ham bone is. I even know what a ham hock is – I think. But who knows what a hamstring is? I sure didn’t. I thought it was a skinny string thing maybe from the knee to the ankle. I thought that was what athletes damaged. Like I said. I’m clueless.
After falling 4 times within a period of 10 days, I was able to get the doctor to order a set of MRIs on my hips to make sure I didn’t break anything. Lo and behold, when the report came back it said in addition to glute tears I already knew about, my hamstrings were damaged. How can I hurt something I don’t even know is there or what it is?
Dr. Google showed me pictures of where the hamstring is, but they might have misplaced the image. One can’t believe everything on the internet you know.
I consulted Dr. Google again to see what exercises I should or shouldn’t be doing for all my maladies. And wouldn’t you know it, he was as confused about that as he was what a hamstring is! How in the world am I supposed to adequately rest without getting ‘stove up’, strengthen my body as best I can, yet exercise each part of my body differently without damaging the other parts further?
I decided to just ignore the whole thing, exercise like I have been, and hope for the best.
But you know the routine. There is one thing I will not ignore because God’s Word never gives it to me wrong!
1 Timothy 4:7,8 NLT ‘Train yourself to be godly. Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.’
Isaiah 40:28-31 TLB is a comfort and a challenge to me. ‘Don’t you yet understand? Don’t you know by now that the everlasting God, the Creator of the farthest parts of the earth, never grows faint or weary? No one can fathom the depths of His understanding. He gives power to the tired and worn out, and strength to the weak. … But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.’
And hopefully not fall again.
Blessings
Kara Beth
