Day Late

If you can’t tell what this is a picture of, you probably aren’t a country girl. It’s a shovel – a very old one that should have been repaired yesterday – or last year – or maybe ten years ago!!!

I was headed out the garage door and noticed the screw was loose that held the blade to the wooden pole. I should have stopped immediately and tightened it. I didn’t.

By the time I got outside, the screw wiggled its way completely out of the hole and fell onto the ground. I noticed the general direction it fell but before I could turn to pick it up, it had gotten deep enough into the grass to become invisible to me.

I raked the area and searched diligently, but to no avail. I just hope I run across it before the tire on Ronald’s John Deere gets stabbed by it! Argh!

I grabbed another shovel and proceeded with the task at hand but of course, I got to thinking…

How often do I put aside things – small things – that need to be done?

For my New Year’s Object Lesson for the family, I spoke about the importance of using our time wisely. I’ve been applying some of those precepts to my own life and doing some interesting experiments. I decided to see exactly how long it takes to entirely clean up the kitchen after a meal. I was rather surprised to see how short a time that activity actually required. Realizing that, I have challenged myself to do it faster and more consistently in a timely fashion rather than putting off the activity until later.

Which got me to thinking about other things I need to do. The problem with this old lady is I often plain old forget what it is I need to do!!! I try to write items on the to-do list, but sometimes that falls by the wayside as I get sidetracked to do something else before completing the first task.

Or I just say, I don’t feel like doing something, put it off, then I for sure forget to do it. Which reminds me, I have forgotten to call my big brother to remind him he is two years older than I am today! Later… I do have an excuse on this one. I am at the dentist.

Anyway.

How many times do I think of someone I feel I need to pray for and don’t do it? How many times do I fail to send an encouraging word to someone who is on my heart?

This morning, Ronald was talking with one of grandsons from Louisville. At the end of the conversation, Ronald said, ‘I love you, Silas.’ After he hung up, he said he wanted to make sure he always told the kids and grandkids how much he loved them. Good job, RD!

Here are some verses to think on.

‘Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time.’ Ephesians 5;15

Galatians 6:9 ‘Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.’

Do I see something that needs to be done? Do I see someone who needs a blessing? I need to do it today – NOW – I may not have another chance.

Blessings
