The Perfect Unstorm
What is the opposite of ‘the perfect storm?’
According to Collins Dictionary, a perfect storm is ‘an unusual combination of events or things that produce an unusually bad or powerful result.’
My made up word, ‘Unstorm’ is a short version of Answers.com antonym = something that ‘connotes a confluence of events producing a positive phenomenon.’
The picture above is not what I would consider a phenomenon. Though it’s a word we all use, I had to look it up to be exact. And I guess my pothos plant is truly a phenomenon = something remarkable, unique, and unusual.
I’ve grown the plant for years and never had any plant produce leaves this big. The leaves are seven inches long and over five inches across. The stalk on which it is growing is as big around as my thumb.
Which is amazing since at its roots and at the beginning of the stalk, it is normal sized. How the unusual growth pattern is happening, I can’t explain except to repeat – ‘a perfect unstorm.’
On my habitual ‘watering Wednesdays’, the long container gets the same amount of water throughout. Does that area of the plant suck up more than its share? I do not know. Multiple air roots are continuing to develop along the large stalk which may be pulling extra moisture it needs from the surrounding environment.
The left side of the plant is growing normal sized leaves and resides in a much shadier spot than the right side which is reaching for the sunny window.

The amount of sunshine is the only factor determining the difference in growth.
It is certainly easy to find many Bible verses that one could think on about growing spiritually and light. How does God’s word – even one verse – change our thinking or touch our hearts? Does our seeking to be closer to the Son, the Light of the world, help us grow spiritually? I think so.
I ask you to read all the verses below, then choose one to think about today.
Psalm 119:105 ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.’ ESV
Psalm 119:130 ‘The unfolding of Your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.’
John 15:5-9 Jesus said, ‘I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.’
Psalm 1:1-6 ‘Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.’
Colossians 2:6-7 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.’
Matthew 5:16 ‘In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.’
