Christmas Georgia Style!

Ronald and I were running errands and passed this on our way out of town. I had him stop on the way home so I could take a picture to share.

Is this not the cutest lawn decoration? Totally unique! A truly accurate depiction of a typical sportsman from Middle Georgia!

Christmas Lane in Thomaston is the town’s annual light show. If one buys property on a certain street, lawn ornaments are pretty much required from December 1 – January 1. Other people nearby show their beliefs, personalities, and creativity with everything from traditional reindeer to painted tire snow men.

I thought a long time last night about what I could write about the Santa in the boat and miscellaneous Christmas decorations around town. As much as my own inside decorations are not the ‘norm’, I can respect others’ ideas on the holiday season.

I decided to give this word of advice – express yourself without worrying about what others think. To me, some of the yards around town are downright tacky!

But it is NOT my business!

Each homeowner needs to do what makes him happy. Celebrate in your own way!

Thankfully, this is a very typical Bible Belt community so we have no religiously offensive symbols around town. Most homes sport secular rather than true nativity scenes, but whatever. For the first time, I saw a large blow-up nativity that was cute. While Mama lived with us, I put up the little wooden crèche on the back porch -until it fell apart. Each year, inside and out, our decorations get simpler and simpler corresponding to our energy level I guess.

The important part of everything this season is the attitude of the heart.

Philippians 2:14 says for us to do all things without grumbling or disputing. Other verses talk about serving with humility and showing love. We are to value peace over presents. Honor and bless those less fortunate. Be thankful!!!

This season can be wrought with strife, depression, envy, or worry. Take all the negatives to Jesus. Let Him exchange them for blessings of peace.

Blessings
