Not An Antique!!!
My friend, Alise, and I went shopping at an antique mall on Saturday. Though we had a great time, I was appalled!
I couldn’t believe it! Everywhere we looked, there were things I recognized as part of my past!
Yes, folks. I learned to type on an old typewriter. I loved the noise it made with each click of a letter and the zoom/clink sound when I hit the return lever. I didn’t care for the jam of the keys when I typed too fast, though I’m sure it wasn’t the speed but the uneven gait of my fingers as they stumbled across the keyboard.
I thought we’d hit the big time when we got a sleek, electric one. It still had the annoying ribbon that got squirreled around and caused problems.
Aah! Kids today don’t realize how easy they have it!
There were mirrors, sconces, and pictures, tools and dishes, clothes and furniture – many of which reminded me of different times and places. How many of you remember setting a record into one of these and praying the needle was still good and wouldn’t scratch the record? And tuning in to a static laden radio station was a challenge, for sure.

Though I took a picture of the two ornate frames, as I looked at the picture now, I was shocked to see the Tupperware in the background! So what’s wrong with old Tupperware? I am still using a Tupperware strainer bowl we got as a wedding gift! I still use a casserole dish given to us by another newly married couple, Roger and Betty Schoob! Nothing wrong with something old, as long as it still works.

Therein lies the rub. Technically, being fifty years old classifies it as an antique. So – technically if I were a thing I would be well past antique. Sigh.
Yeah, so I’m ancient. I can’t do the things I loved and used to do like teaching classes of little ones at church because of physical limitations (going up and down stairs). But as I reflect on my antiquity, I take comfort and pray this may be true in me – Psalm 92:13 – 15 NKJV. ‘Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.’
Antique or not, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!
Blessings,
Kara Beth the Ancient One (or crazy old lady – take your pick!)
