Angels and Me
As I offered my oldest grandson some of my angels as part of my Swedish Death Purge, Wes set me straight. ‘Grammie, you know your angels are nothing like real ones! We’d all be scared to death if we really saw an angel!’
Well, yes. My angel collection is nothing like the real deal but through the years, I enjoyed collecting ornaments and statues, cross-stitch angels and even cutesy angel lollipop molds! Though my angels are special, I give them as gifts, and I am purging them with wild abandon. I am hoping to cut my collection at least by half at the end of the season, though I will keep enough to decorate one swag and counter next year.
Angels are specifically servants of God to carry out God’s purpose. They are to protect and minister to God’s people. They are God’s messengers and warriors. They transmit God’s words and intentions and serve as worship leaders. Both in the past and in the future, angels perform God’s judgment. (More info available at gotquestions.org).
Angels are interesting characters. I personally must have at least a jillion personal guardian angels because of the way I drive – and move around in general. I need all the help I can get! I just pray I haven’t squished any as I trip, fall, or make careless driving miscalculations.
Angels figured significantly in the Christmas story. Angels appeared at least five times. But can you imagine being a shepherd out in the dark fields then having an angel appear? How about a multitude of the heavenly hosts? How many is a host? No one knows. Incalculable! Is that cool to think about?
Being a costumer at heart, I kinda wonder how they were dressed. Were they decked out in battle array? Like Wesley, I doubt they were as ‘normally’ beautiful as my angel collection. Maybe they dressed so dazzling, the shepherds just got a general impression. Did they have glittery outfits? I hope they wear glitter. I always design angel costumes with lots of sparkle. So much fun! I want to be glittery when I get to heaven.
Here are some great verses that tell us about angels, but remember we worship GOD alone, not angels!
Psalm 91:11 NKJV ‘For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.’
I love this saying by Jesus as I am so fond of little ones. Matthew 18:10 TLB ‘Beware that you don’t look down upon a single one of these little children. For I tell you that in heaven their angels have constant access to My Father.’
Hebrew 13:2 TLB ‘Don’t forget to be kind to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!’
