Fit bit Lies!

I know the first two words in the title should be one, but I don’t want to get in trouble with the trademark people.

Bless my heart! I wrote a blog about this last night for about an hour. The site wasn’t behaving quite right. I saved a draft and went to bed. Guess what? I lost everything! This site was working about as well as the timepiece about which I am going on a full fledged rant!

On to the subject.

I knew it! I was being cheated on a daily basis! People – let this be a life lesson for us all! Technology can lie through its teeth even though it doesn’t have any!!!

The sweet little timepiece is supposed to fit around my wrist. HOWEVER! There, it registers only a VERY SMALL portion of my daily steps. Now I have PROOF!

Though my laundry is on one end of the house and the bedroom is on the other, when I walk from the laundry room carrying clean clothes in my arms, the watch logs NO steps! Unless my arm upon which the watch is strapped is swinging like I’m an ape woman or something – NO steps!

Whenever I go to Walmart, I hold onto the basket for balance sake. By the time I shop for things on my list, walk around the store another time to find things I need that were not on my list, then find Ronald, I know the thing should be showing more steps.

Since I knew I was going to have a busy day yesterday trying to finish my Christmas decorations, I decided I really wanted to know exactly how many steps I took.

Maybe I should insert an explanation here. I’m not overly fond of exercise and when I actually hustle, I want justification for such an expenditure of energy.

Anyway.

I decided to put the watch on my leg to see if being closer to the floor would inspire the watch to do its job more effectively. I placed the back of it against my leg just like I place it against my skin on my wrist. I tucked my sock firmly around the silly thing and hoped for the best.

And surprise, surprise! Instead of the 2300 or so steps it usually logs for that sort of activity, I pulled in over 10,500 steps for the day! My sore feet, hips, and back are much more bearable with that amazing vindication. Somehow. Don’t ask why. Doesn’t make sense to me either.

You can better believe the thing will be in my sock from now on.

Anyway. Now that I am mostly over my aggravation at the fit but, I’ll move on to more important things.

That got me to thinking about other kinds of steps.

There are so many Bible verses about our walk with God. Can you imagine walking with God in the garden of Eden? Walking across the dried up Red Sea? Walking around Jericho? Walking with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane? Mind boggling!

But as believers, we can walk with God every day! Please read these verses and find some of your own.

Psalm 37:13 TLB ‘The steps of good men are directed by the Lord. He delights in each step they take.’

Psalm 84:5 TLB ‘Happy are those who are strong in the Lord, who above all else want to follow Your steps.’

Deuteronomy 11 talks about our walk as parents. ‘So keep these commandments carefully in mind. … Teach them to your children, talk about them when you are sitting at home, when you are out walking, at bedtime, and before breakfast.’ TLB

Psalm 25:3-5 TLB ‘None of those who have faith in God will ever be disgraced for trusting Him. … Show me the path where I should go, O Lord; point out the right road for me to walk. Lead me; teach me; for You are the God who gives me salvation. I have no hope except in You.’

Psalm 71:15-18 TLB ‘I cannot count the times when You have faithfully rescued me from danger. I will tell everyone how good You are, and of Your constant, daily care. I walk in the strength of the Lord God. I tell everyone that You alone are just and good. O God, You have helped me from my earliest childhood – and I have constantly testified to others of the wonderful things You do.’  It goes on to ask for help in old age to continue to share the message of God’s love and care. May it be so.

Blessings
