Secrets? Nah!
I couldn’t help myself. The Atlanta Brick Company in Newnan was calling my name.
Our last trip there to buy Legos for our grandson made us aware of Missy’s desire for some of the large Christmas sets.
Our Missy is setting traditions for her family. Those kinds of things are important to her.
We (mostly I) decided this year, she NEEDED Lego sets that could become Christmas traditions for them for years. Instead of giving money for her birthday and Christmas, we went to my favorite store in the universe. When I grow up, I am going to get a job there. If we lived anywhere close, you’d better believe I would have already applied! Just thinking of it brings a smile to my face!
Anyway. I was tired of purging my stuff and Mama’s things, and we needed to have some distraction. So-away we went, ho-ho-ho-ing all the way.
Of course, I wanted to meander and shop a while. And of course, Ronald went straight to the Christmas sets, pointed and had them at the cash register before I could blink twice! I hurriedly grabbed two smaller Christmas sets and threw them onto the counter with the others.
I grumped all the way out the door. Once we reached the parking lot, we discussed whether or not we wanted to share the good news before her birthday this weekend. Then we discussed (very briefly) if we would wait until Christmas to give her the other one.

By the time we pulled out of the parking lot, we had called Missy and spilled the beans. She was thrilled, and we all giggled about our family’s inability to keep secrets. It’s a family tradition I consistently keep and love!
Ronald’s mama had a Christmas tradition treasured by all the family. Each year as we gathered together, she would read the Christmas story. It was beautiful as we all focused not on the gag gifts that were sure to make everyone laugh. We weren’t wondering about who would win the quilt drawing. We all listened to the story about the greatest gift ever – God sending His Son to redeem mankind.
As I continue to set up my Christmas decorations, I wonder if I am focusing on the most important part of Christmas. I wonder if I am focusing on telling the story that should not be a secret.
So here’s the not so secret Good News – God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John3:16 NIV
This Christmas, I’m not keeping this secret! God loves you! And as we say down here – All the time!
Blessings
Kara Beth
