Mama’s Prayers
As I have been getting rid of Mom’s belongings, I am trying to help out my daughters by going through my own ‘treasures’ and tossing a few things each day. After shredding much of Mom’s business, I decided to go through some of my files. I did some serious pitching, but I found this paper by an unknown author. It would have described my mother.
A Heart That Prays
Some have had kings in their lineage,
Some to whom honor was paid.
Not blest of my ancestors – but,
I have a mother who prays.
I have a mother who prays for me
And pleads with the Lord every day for me.
O what a difference it makes for me –
I have a mother who prays.
Some have worldly success
And trust in riches they’ve made –
This is my surest asset,
I have a mother who prays.
My mother’s prayers cannot save me,
Only mine can avail;
But Mother introduced me to Someone –
Someone who never could fail.
Oh, yes…I have a mother who prays for me
And pleads with the Lord every day for me.
O what a difference it makes for me –
I have a mother who prays.
1 Thessalonians 5 admonishes us to pray without ceasing. I think that is especially important for women. I can remember seeing my grandmother on her knees by her bed praying for me. I knew Mama prayed for me daily – probably hourly at certain stages of my life! Now that she is with her Savior, I wonder if all those prayers she prayed on my behalf accrued compound interest.
May I be challenged to carry on the legacy I have been shown and be faithful to pray for others in faith as my ancestors did.
