Back in the Day
Back in the last century, I wrote a couple of musicals. One was performed once and shelved completely due to despair.
The next one was performed a number of times. It ended up in a storage drawer for nearly 30 years.
As I do the ‘Swedish Death Purge’, I’m finding all sorts of things to give away or pitch. All sorts of projects scream to be finished. Supplies for my Tree of Life sculptures, a box of unfinished cross stitch designs, and several pieces of un-sewn material vie for my attention.
Spotlight on Bethlehem is one of my projects I am trying to resurrect rather than pitch. I make no apologies for trying my best to get the musical performed again.
Writing coach, Chad R. Allen, has a friend who wrote a book. Jonathan Milligan’s encouragement in Your Message Matters has kept me plodding along as I’ve reworked the musical for online publication. Finding and then losing one of the major components of the musical nearly knocked me for a loop. Thankfully, an old school audio tape was found from which a company, Current Pixels, was able to recover the music so I can present it in a 21st century format.
Of all the silliness I write, I pray the Truth I try to share at the end of each blog touches someone’s life. As I attempt to have this musical used, I can’t say I’m trying to market it because it is free. What I want is its Truth to get into the hearts of children and adults as they work to ‘get the show on the road.’ The story simply and plainly depicts the Christmas story and relates many of the attributes and qualities of the Savior who is God Incarnate who came to earth to show God’s love.
If the participants of any performance will embrace these Truths, my task will be accomplished.
I ask that anyone who has affiliations with churches will pass the musical information along. It may be too late for this year’s cycle, but the story is timeless.
In Acts 20:24, Paul states, ‘But life is worth nothing unless I use if for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about God’s might, kindness and love.’ TBL
