Toilet Tissue Truths

The writing coach I follow is always wanting to help writers who seem to have writer’s block. My problem is the opposite. I have too many things I think about. There aren’t many of my ideas that have that much merit, but there are things I want to write about. This is somewhere between a GROSS OUT ALERT, a scientific and historical NERD ALERT, and you guessed it – an OBJECT LESSON!

I’ve repeated the old saying before, “Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits.” Many times as I ‘sits on the throne’ I have crazy things run through my head that end up as a blog. I guess you could say today’s nonsense is sponsored by Charmin.

Don’t take too much time to think about what people used to wipe their backsides with back in the day. Some things were really gross with a capital G! For example – Romans used a sponge on a stick, rinsed it in salt water or vinegar between uses, and shared the tool with others. UGH!

It is interesting that the Chinese may have used paper as early as the 6th century. By the 16th century, people were using magazines and newspapers. Around the 19th century people were using catalogs which companies obligingly put holes in for hanging in the outhouse. I wonder how many products were ordered as a result of that clever marketing scheme.

The patent for potty paper was in 1857 by James Gayetty. And yes, folks! The roll was supposed to be placed in an overhand position!!! If I ever visit your house and you have it on the wrong way, I can almost guarantee it will be corrected by the time I get up!

Which brings me to my object lesson.

The image of potty paper is very clearly defined in the patent archives. The inventor’s original intent leaves no questions as to its proper use or design.

The Bible says we are made in God’s image. God has laid out the design for a blessed life very clearly. We are fearfully and wonderfully made whether or not we follow His plan. Our choices and freewill affect the effectiveness of our lives to reflect His intent.

His Word is such a practical book if we are seeking Truth.  Among other things there are instructions on how to get along with others, how to succeed in our careers, and how to manage our finances. All are explained very clearly throughout the Book. The most important thing the Bible explains is the way to live eternally in heaven with the Father who made us, has always loved us, and provided a way of blessing in this life and the next.

Proverbs 16:20 ESV. ‘Whoever gives thought to the Word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.’

Blessings
