Losing Our Marbles!
You’ve heard the old saying about not playing with all your marbles? Or something like that. I can’t remember it exactly.
If you’ve ever wondered if Ronald and I are losing our marbles, we aren’t. We are just overly creative.
We had gone to Callaway Gardens. We wanted to go to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the same town, but it didn’t open for another forty minutes. I had walked my limit for the day, and we had seen what we wanted to see. The question was, ‘What do we do to occupy us for that time?’
Ronald hadn’t brought a book, and I didn’t have anything to write with. As I looked through the car, I found a deck of cards. Sort of.
When we counted them, there were only 50 cards. What could we do with that?
Play war!
It was perfect. Especially since I won every round. We laughed at our clever inventiveness. We made lemonade from a less than perfect deck. We could hardly shuffle them because I think someone had already spilled lemonade on them. Or something grosser!
.
But how fun and what a great memory!
There are so many times when I look only at the negatives and failures of my life. I need to copy the picture of the cards and hang it on my wall so I will see it daily. It would be a great reminder to lighten up and refuse to dwell on unpleasantness. Or maybe I’ll make it my computer picture that comes up. Except I don’t know how to do that. Argh!
Anyway.
Philippians 4:8 gives Truth I need to know, accept, and live. “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” NLT
Philippians 4:4 says, “Always be full of joy in the Lord.” NLT
The Message version translates 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 this way. “Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.”
May we all have a healthy dose of cheer, good thoughts, and thankfulness.
Blessings
Kara Beth
