Ice or Heat?

Isn’t there a pop song that says, ‘Oops, I did it again!’?

Bless my heart.

So it was a choice between going swimming or cleaning house. I think I made the wrong choice again.

Ronald went on a walk the first day after my doctor said I could get back to normal – or at least that’s what I thought he said. I hurried to do some housecleaning before Ronald got back. I moved my bed across the room, vacuumed, mopped, moved everything back.

Then I sat on my backside complaining for the next two days.

Did you ever start a project and think, ‘That would look better if I moved it over there?’ And we all know what happens then. One thing leads to another, and soon the living room is in total disarray. Then everything has to be put back – not in the same place – but everything must be in position before one can call it a day.

Some days, I am real thankful the pool table can’t be moved. If it could, no telling where that sucker would end up!

Anyway … I ended up completing less than a fourth of my good intentions. With all recliners, end tables, and plants rearranged, I have ‘flanged up’. (That expression was one of Dad’s from his oil field days.) Thankfully, tomorrow is Sunday, and I fully intend to use it as a day of serious rest!

So does one use ice or heat to relieve aching muscles?

I am compromising. Ice on my backside and hip, heat on my shoulders. If that doesn’t work, I’ll switch it out. If that doesn’t work, I may have Ronald take me out for a peanut buster parfait. That’s sure to make a body feel good! Of course, I’ll have to take an extra metformin to counteract that unwise choice, but whatever! I’ve about had it! (I didn’t get ice cream, but man, it sounds good!)

I still can’t figure out how to get my harp back into the living room. It was displaced by the pool table. I’ll figure it out eventually. What I really want to do is knock out the back wall and make a big sunroom. That’s the best plan ever! And have a big porch swing, and put my harp there where I will accompany the birds’ fantastic arias.

And I am dreaming!

Anyway. Here’s the truth of things.

There are many times when what we think is a good idea or activity isn’t right, appropriate, or even logical. Mine today were all three, plus unwise and a lot crazy!

Sometimes, we have ideas or schemes that follow our selfish desires, and we fail to ask for God’s wisdom before we launch our brilliant plans. Sometimes at the end of the day, there is no harm or foul. Maybe an ice pack or heating pad is all that’s needed to ease the pain.

But sometimes, actions can cause pain or suffering for ourselves and others for which there is no easy solution. ‘Oops’ or ‘I’m sorry’ rarely alleviates the problems our foolhardiness has caused. Overspending, overeating, or overexercising can all cause long range problems with no easy fixes. Hatefulness, cruelty, conceit, and arrogance can destroy others and our relationships that no apology can mend.

I know this Bible verse doesn’t really fit my activities of today, but maybe in my case it applies. Psalm 94:8 ‘Understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise?’ Hmm. Never?

Disobeying the truth of God’s wisdom is always a recipe for disaster. We may suffer greatly for going against Truth, but God’s mercy is available.

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Blessings
