YOWZA!!!
I was going to name this blog ‘Shocked’, but ‘Yowza’ more adequately expresses my surprise. But then I’m an old lady who doesn’t stay up to speed when it comes to the prices of modern objects.
When Ronald brought home a pint of heavy cream for which he paid $12 dollars, I nearly dropped my uppers – except all my teeth, even the fake ones, are still attached.
I read about a car paint job that cost over $63K available on a $2M car. Rolls Royce won’t even tell the price of its fancy paint job – the Diamond Stardust. I guess if you have to ask the price of something, that means. you can’t afford it. Mercy!
We have placed a new engine and transmission in our car so it will last a jillion more miles. Way cheaper than a new car! Not as nice or fancy, but it gets us where we need to go. Yes, it has dings and dents, but it’s like my face. Showing its age. But Ronald better not trade the car or me in on a newer model!
Our new friend, Mike, has a job that is super interesting. When his wife, Alise, told me Mike fixed up boats, I couldn’t picture them. When they came over, he showed me his work and was nice enough to send pictures for me to share. His company gets a basic boat, puts on all sorts of things – fancy motors, electronics, and extra attachments.
Ready for the basic list price of this boat before Mike’s work?
$56,000!!!!!
For a fishing boat, people! I would try to figure out how many fish a person would have to catch to equal the cost of the boat, but I am not a good mathematician. Even if you were paying $10 per pound of fish, it would take a whale of a long time to equal things out in my book!
But since I don’t like fish of any kind, I would get no use out of it unless someone would drive me out onto some beautiful bay in the Caribbean. In that case, a high-priced catamaran would be worth the cost. But does anyone really NEED a fishing boat like this?
But it’s all about priorities.
So here’s today’s Grammie Rant based on my years as a young mother who had little understanding of wise financial living.
Part of the problem of priorities is the perceived ‘needs’ of our lives. Do we really need another pair of shoes? Do we really need to get our kids another doll? Do we really need a bigger house? A newer car?
Priorities must be based on a budget where income is more than outflow. Crown Ministries and Dave Ramsey both have books and studies that can teach you more than I ever can. Check them out.
I’m not going to preach to you today, but I will point you to another source. The topical Bible study site http://www.openbible.info/topics/ is a gold mine of Biblical truth. Look up Priorities, Stewardship, or God’s Provision. The list of verses goes on and on. When a person is struggling with any issue of life, the Bible has the answers.
Here’s a really wonderful promise that is better than any Grammie Rant. I pray you take it to heart. This may not be the best verse for this blog, but it spoke to me today.
2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT
And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
Blessings
Kara Beth
