Can’t Make ‘Em Drink!
Well glory, I’m on a rant today. I”ll get right down to it. I’ll probably have to repent and possibly lose some ‘friends’ over this, but whatever. Blogging sometimes gets my panties out of a knot. Not always, but it’s worth a try today.
There’s an old saying – You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.
I asked my friend who is a competitive horsewoman if that was true. She said she had one horse she had gone across the country with three times. Each trip, the horse wouldn’t drink from the time she left to the time she arrived at her destination.
That seems pretty unhealthy and stubborn to me. Which leads me to the blog …
I know there are people who genuinely need assistance from the government and charitable groups. I am not talking about those kinds of people.
I’m also not talking about the admirable people who are as old or older than I am who are working two jobs to make ends meet. They are in the same ‘old age’ stage of physical pain as I am and in most cases worse. Yet, they go to work faithfully each day and do what needs to be done. BRAVO!!! But if they did need help, I would be first in line to give them a hand.
On the other hand!
I am about to become a total sinner by refusing to help anyone ‘in need’. Argh!
When a person is too lazy or ‘disabled’ to work, I don’t buy it. I know of people with no arms and no legs who run million dollar companies or have successful ministries. I know of a very disabled lady who can barely get around in her wheelchair who is a successful lawyer who aids the disabled!
Give me a break! There is something you can do! You may not be able to do what you were able to do in the past, but you can do something! Get your lazy backside out of bed, and WORK!
When a person is too lazy and too accustomed to free handouts to have a plan to succeed beyond being on the dole, don’t come to me for a donation. If you are not willing to be guided into proper stewardship, you are on your own. When you go out to eat instead of eating beans at home, don’t go whining about having no money. When you eat the majority of the food and your children go hungry, you are abusive. When you spend my donations on cigarettes and booze, fancy watches or earrings, designer clothes or name brand purses, high priced phones and televisions, go on down the road with your begging! I am done with you!
I would say I’m sorry for writing this blog, but I’m not. Of course, the ones who need this advice won’t be reading this post. A pastor’s wife told me when they offered stewardship classes at church, the ones who really needed it never came. I am not alone in my frustration. Sigh.
I would post a Bible verse about being generous, but I’d rather post the one where the early church was plagued with moochers. Paul said, ‘If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.’
I guess Paul got his panties in a knot sometimes. That eases my angst a little bit, but I have no hope for the moochers of the world. Like my grandson’s teeshirt says, ‘You can’t fix stupid!’
