Yay, Me!

So you won’t think I’m a total dud when it comes to cooking, I am going to share the recipe to yesterday’s successful culinary feast. With a caveat, of course. I sort of followed the recipe. No surprise, right?

I have found from making it several times, it’s fun to add different ingredients than those listed. Today’s changes are due to not having the right ingredients on hand.

Bunny trail. I love Latin phrases. The only one I really know is ‘carpe diem’.

I was looking up something fancy to say about my propensity to change recipes – something that would add some sort of legitimacy to my creativity – something sophisticated. When I asked the translator to change out ‘use what you’ve got’, it sounded cool – ‘utere quid habes’.  I then typed in ‘make it up as you go along’ = ‘illud quod pergitis’. Looking for something more memorable, I asked for a translation of ‘improvise’. I was rather disappointed, but the translation is easy to remember. ‘Improvise’ = ‘Improvise’.

So I will no longer say I haven’t followed the recipe. From this moment forward, I will say I improvised. Definitely more sophisticated.

Because I am a super lazy cook, I love to dump everything into a crock pot, turn it on, come back 4 to 6 hours later, and voilà! A gourmet meal with only one dish to wash! Whoop! Whoop! (translation from redneck = “Win! Win!” Another modern translation = “Yay, me,” or in ancient Biblical interpretation = “Miracles happen!”

Crackpot, I mean Crockpot Crack Chicken

The ingredients are chicken breasts, ranch dressing mix, block of cream cheese, crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, onions.

I don’t know how it compared to the recipe, but I put in 2 chicken breasts – that’s a sort of follow – it was chicken not pork chops. I put in the cream cheese and cheddar cheese in proper measurements – that’s a Yay, me!

I didn’t have ranch dressing mix so I put in part of a bottle of ranch salad dressing. That’s a close enough. Fearing it wouldn’t be spicy enough I added half a packet of Knorr’s vegetable soup mix. Mark that as an excellent addition.

I didn’t have green onions, but I put in regular ones. It worked.

So there you go! Cooking by KB!

Funny story. Because I have this bald spot on the top of my head, I’ve been using lots of mousse on my hair and fluffing it up to cover my pink scalp. I went to physical therapy the other day with what I call my big, Texas hairdo. A fellow tortured patient said, “You’ve probably heard it before, but you look just like Paula Deen!” My reply was, “Wow! I wish I cooked as good as she does!”

And people! There you have it.  From now on, just call me  by my code name – KB the Chef Extraordinaire! Or better yet and much more sophisticated,  KB Archimagirus Extraordinaire!

I hope you like my recipe.

My Bible verse today is totally unrelated to my cooking but is total Truth nonetheless.

In John 8:12,  Jesus was teaching the people. ” I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life.” That’s a great recipe for life, right? Having Jesus’ Light within us is incomprehensible and totally awesome!

Blessings

PS I am also using the wonderful scalp makeup Missy gave me. It really works!
