Mother of Invention Take 2

This is a word of truth. Leftovers are the mother of invention!

I am getting worse than some old lady who lived during the Depression! Ronald and I eat way too many leftovers.

But the nice thing about them – you don’t have to do anything but reheat the food. Voilà! No muss, no fuss.

Plus, when one mixes several leftovers, sometimes one ends up with a unique concoction that is quite tasty.

Sometimes, not so much.

But at least there are fewer containers cluttering up the refrigerator!

Ronald educated our granddaughters about leftovers the other day. “You place them in appropriate storage containers and put them in the fridge. In a day or two, you take the food out, put it down the disposal, and consider it a good choice.”

I will say Ronald was creative with some leftovers this morning. I couldn’t eat because of fasting bloodwork so instead of our usual boiled eggs, he was going to have leftover pizza. Then his genius took over!

He fried up a big ol’ sausage patty, warmed up two slices of pizza, and concocted a culinary delight! The father of invention!

There’s a saying about one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. There are many things in life other than leftovers that fall into those two categories.

Though I’m not the best recycler out there, I can repurpose things like crazy. Ronald’s favorite tea comes in little plastic tubes that are perfect for mixing paints for my dirty pour creations.

You never know when a little strip of foam from some package will come in handy. Dylan’s Easter hat was a wee bit too large. Tacking a thin slice of saved foam made the hat fit much better!

A spring mix greens’ plastic container became a container to grow all the cuttings from my recent plant trimming.

My sister-in-law, Cindy, takes beautiful old linens her mom brought with her from Europe and old pillow tops my mom had embroidered to make quilts for today.

Another sister-in-law, Patricia, takes beads from broken necklaces or bracelets to create beautiful new jewelry.

My sister-in-law, Kathie, leads a wonderful group of women who are changing countless lives with their recycling. Tapestry of Love takes any donation of material and constructs a variety of products ranging from honor quilts for vets, to gift bags and toys for cancer hospitals, to bibs for a local handicapped adults’program, and other things too numerous to list. Their work is literally sent around the world!

All these ladies take things no longer perceived as valuable and make them special gifts for others.

Of course there is an object lesson!

God loves to use the events in our lives we consider useless to bring us to a new level or better place where we are blessed or we can bless others.

This is TRUTH! No matter what you or others think of you, you are always valuable to God. You aren’t some leftover has-been. You are God’s creation! At all ages, God loves you, values your life, and provides for you.

I believe from eternity, God has a plan for your life – ultimately to bring you to Himself. His plans are to bring a future and a hope. God values the lives of children, says for us not to think less of the young, and to respect and honor each other at any age. And I love God’s promises even to those of us who are past prime! Psalm 92 says the godly will flourish like palm trees, are transplanted into the Lord’s own garden, and are under His faithful, personal care. Even in my ‘maturity’ I am still blessed by God. How cool is that?

Think about how much God loves us. He may at times repurpose us for something better, but He always has our best interest in His heart.

Blessings
