OOPS!!!
A funny thing happened on my way to good intentions yesterday.
I haven’t been well for a while. Because I am a tooth grinder, I wear a mouth guard at night. I thought perhaps the mouth guard was carrying germs that contributed to my constant problems. Though I always brush the guard after each wear and soak it in strong vinegar, I assumed it could get cleaner. I even tried adding hydrogen peroxide to the vinegar until the fumes got me. Who knew that adding the two together makes peracetic acid which is toxic and irritates eyes, nose, and the respiratory system? Live and learn. Or accidentally die from stupidity and ignorance!
Well, I thought, I put my contact cases and toothbrushes in the dishwasher and they survive. Why not put my mouth guards in there? I figured the wash cycle plus the sanitizer system would kill any germs.
What I didn’t figure is that one of the guards would shrink up so small it would fit my 1 year old granddaughter! Not really. She only has two teeth.
Thank goodness the other mouth guard was made of a different material and stayed the same size!
At least it was good for a laugh!
There has to be an object lesson there somewhere.
I looked up several verses about good intentions, and none of them worked in this case. The closest one was 1 Corinthians 15:33 which says, Don’t be deceived. Bad company ruins good morals. Which can be misconstrued to say bad choices can really mess things up.
The only other verse that really applied is Proverbs 17:22. A merry heart does good like a medicine. I got a good laugh anyway. Didn’t cure my chronic sinus problem, but it was funny.
I think I may frame the ruined mouth guard to remind myself of something deeply philosophical – if I can think of something that would apply. In the meanwhile, I’ll giggle at myself, so all is not lost!
