Learn From Fiction
Sometimes, watching old movies can enlighten and inspire. Back in the day, I loved the science fiction movies and shows. What was once fantasy is now our reality. Some old shows reveal the failings and sinfulness of people’s natures and expose our present truth with troubling accuracy.
Last night, we watched what I think was the first Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. who played the part with his usual flair. I personally think he and the others played their parts well.
It was the plot that was disturbing. Of course, you’ll need to read this blog knowing that I am a rabid, right-wing conservative who probably believes more conspiracy theories than you can count.
With the villain’s dedication to evil, Lord Henry Blackwood tries his hand at ruling the world. Through clever visual tricks and scientific chicanery, he gathers a group of people to himself who believed in domination and control of people’s emotions, thoughts, and actions, and want to manipulate the day to day lives of the citizens. The people would swear fealty to Lord Blackwood’s demanding, selfish, delusional desires. He was determined to have people submit to him by being an absolute and cruel tyrant.
I will give the gist and paraphrase the lines that most strongly reminded me of today’s nefarious plans of our less than stellar government. Blackwood’s purpose was to create a new future where he and his cronies would rule. Like those who are rewriting our world’s history today and want to provide a new chapter and world order, Blackwood wanted to make the people see his power and ‘bow down in fear‘. He continued to tell them that the government of America was as corrupt as his own so Blackwood deserved to take control. He was going to remake the world and recreate the future in evil’s image.
Zechariah 1 gives promises and warnings. God will turn again to His people with favor if they would turn from their evil ways. He had warned them in the past, but they would not listen or pay attention to Truth. Will we listen now?
We may never have freedom in America again, and the world may be going to hell in a hand basket, but in John 8, Jesus gave us the key to true freedom. “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to My teachings. And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. “I tell you the Truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”
