Cleaning Frenzy Hypocrite

The more I write these blogs, the more I see my faults and failures. Ugh! My name is Kara Beth, and I am a hypocrite!

First, a cute story. My older brother, Steve, had company a few weeks ago. When one of the children fussed about leaving Steve’s place, Steve pulled a few ‘Grandpa’ tricks. First, he challenged the little one to race him to the van. When the child told his dad he didn’t want to get in the car seat, Steve insisted that he could get in and buckled up before the little boy could do it. Steve said he’d learned a few tricks through the years. And he’s got more years than I do by far!

But I had a few tricks of my own back in the day. I was nowhere near being a neat freak, but at least once a day we’d have a family “cleaning frenzy” where toys were hustled or thrown into the toy box. Books were shelved, and the day’s mess was replaced by a clean play area. Because we often set an alarm for five short minutes, we hurried to beat the clock. It was a winner in my child rearing repertoire.

But, that was back in the day. I need someone around to crack the whip or set an alarm to inspire a cleaning frenzy. As I am writing this blog, I am simultaneously shaming myself and looking for Bible verses to motivate me. Not sure I wanted to know the truth.

I believe the verses are talking about spiritual things, but they are good to ponder either way.

1 Corinthians 14:40 Be sure everything is done properly and in order. NLT. Though this applied to church services, it could very well be applied to my desk.

Philippians 2:14 can be applied directly to housework if your name is Kara Beth. “Do everything without complaining.” Ouch!

Ephesians 5:15-17 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.  Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. NLT

There you have it, folks. Words of wisdom applying to the spiritual home where Jesus dwells. Maybe I’ll think on applying the verses to my physical house – tomorrow.

(I’m not really a slob. Mostly.)

Blessings
