Live, Learn, Die and Forget It All

Live, Learn, Die and Forget It All. This phrase was actually my daddy’s that I absconded.

He was a quiet man. Though I was in my early thirties when he died, I wasn’t aware of life enough to really know him. In my ‘maturity’, I realize the depth of the man who would sit and read the Bible faithfully and study other books with concentration. l often wonder what truths he could have shared that if I had been less egocentric I would have been challenged to be a better version of myself. I don’t know if that even makes sense to anyone but me.

As I have said in the blogs about my Celebrate Life parties, I have become more committed to live in joy and thanksgiving.

I try my best to keep learning. “The world is so full of a number of things, I’m sure we should all be as happy as kings!” said Robert Louis Stevenson.

However! Sometimes, the old brain meets subjects that would take more time and brain cells than I’ve got.

Die and forget it all is a phrase I have to ponder. I think part of it needs the ‘strike that, reverse it’ phrase applied. Forgetting it all seems to be an act that is preceding dying way too often!

Ronald and I have a sure cure for the forgetting part of the phrase. Being as ‘seasoned’ as we are, we can forget what we got up for, what room we were headed to, and what we were going to get when we got there. As an antidote for that, we have begun to say aloud things like, “I am getting up to get my pills from the backroom.”

Ah. Then comes the dying part. Of course, I always wanted to be raptured before every math test. Didn’t happen. I always tell my kids I want to take a flying leap into eternity! Whoop! Whoop! Ronald is afraid of taking me to the Grand Canyon. I have teased way too often about taking a selfie off some cliff.

But like the Bible says, my times are in His hands. Whether I live, learn, or die, I pray will have made a positive difference in someone’s life. I pray I will continue to get to write my wacky ‘wisdom’ or share the Truth of God’s Word. As I watch Mom fade, I know my future is not always mine to choose. “Occupy until I come” was Jesus’ phrase. I am not going to worry about the how and when of dying. I’ll just keep on keeping on, doing what I am supposed to do.

Except clean my desk.

There you have it. I hope I can remember more of my pet phrases to write another blog another day.

Blessings

Psalm 100   TPT

Lift up a great shout of joy to Yahweh!
Go ahead and do it—everyone, everywhere!
Worship Yahweh with gladness.
Sing your way into His presence with joy!
And realize what this really means—
we have the privilege of worshiping Yahweh our God.
For He is our Creator and we belong to Him.
We are the people of His pleasure.
You can pass through His open gates with the password of praise.
Come right into His presence with thanksgiving.
Come bring your thank offering to Him
and affectionately bless His beautiful name!
For Yahweh is always good and ready to receive you.
He’s so loving that it will amaze you—
so kind that it will astound you!
And He is famous for His faithfulness toward all.
Everyone knows our God can be trusted,
for He keeps his promises to every generation!
