Off We Go!
I started to title this blog ‘Here We Go’, but since the next few days will be daily, short, with a lot of nonsense blogs, the ‘Off’ works!
As we gathered yesterday with two of my family’s families, they had a suggestion for part of this upcoming month. Since I turn the big 70 toward the end of the month, as per their advice, I will share my sage exhortations in short, memorable phrases. Hopefully, I will find 70 bits of wisdom that will change your perspective or at least give you a laugh for the day.
Since I am already one day behind, I’ll share the backstory and my first piece of advice. But! As my middle daughter warns, advice and opinions are like backsides. Everyone has one, but no one wants to see someone else’s.
No one really wants to know my opinions on wasteful government spending, but I will give two small examples.
As we have tried to get Mom VA benefits, my brother has continued to jump through hoops. We are working with a social worker who has helped in the process. Four times, I have received outdated paperwork of at least fifteen pages each. Ciara tells me each time we’ve already dealt with that issue, and the proper work was done a month ago. One letter arrived with a cover letter that explained what needed to be done. The instructions were ‘fill out the enclosed paperwork and send it in.’ The next seven pages were blank. Maybe like the government’s heads?
This past week, Ronald received a letter from Medicare. The first page had what he needed to know. The next four pages were duplicates of the first page.
Considering the outrageous spending on ridiculous things that line the pockets of dishonest politicians and their cronies, I can do nothing but pay the outrageous taxes that are sure to be misused.
Or is there something more? Thanks for asking.
Pray!
Many times, especially in the Old Testament, the prophets begged the people to pray for honest leaders. They begged the people to repent, change their wicked ways, and follow God’s teaching. Over and over the people refused and calamity befell the land and the people.
Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. Isaiah 55:7 NLT
Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19
There you have it, folks. Sage advice from God’s Word. Pray and see the hand of God move in your life and in this country!
Blessings
