Christmas Cuteness
Ah, Christmas through the eyes of a child! So wondrous!
Mom lives in an assisted living home. Throughout the year, different groups bring little ones there to lift the old ones’ spirits. Mom gets small packages and notes when they visit, and she treasures each one.
Today when I visited her, I was shown the cards she had received so far. This card joined all the fancy, glittery, poetic, purchased cards on her dresser. This was the most treasured though she didn’t know the child. Precious!
Sometimes, when we see misspellings or wrong words on a child’s card, we want to correct every mistake and make her do it over. Please don’t do that! Did you see the joy and concentration as the child wrote the card? Let that be her memory rather than a critique. It’s not a spelling test. It’s a gift of love. The recipient will treasure that card above all others.
Like any gift that’s given, it’s the thought behind the present that counts.
What will be your reaction to the gifts you receive?
It’s not something I want. I deserved something more expensive. My gift wasn’t as expensive as what was given to my brother. It’s just a junky gift! Did they really think I would like it? I gave him a great gift, and he gave me this?
As a gift receiver, please take time to see the heart behind the gift. Consider the feelings of the giver and be genuinely thankful.
As a gift giver, always give with a heart of love. Say a prayer as you decide on a gift and pray for the receiver.
The greatest gift was given many years ago. God, the Son, was given to mankind to restore the broken relationship between God and man. How many today and throughout the ages have criticized that incomparable gift of love? How many have rejected the best gift ever? Sadly, too many.
Jeremiah 31:3 says God loves us with an everlasting love. 2 Corinthians 9 encourages our generosity, but tells us to thank God for His overflowing grace He has shown to us. Throughout Scripture, we are promised God’s peace and guidance. He truly is our very present help in times of trouble.
Take time this season to go through Scripture and find other blessings God sent to man – the blessings that started with a little child in a manger. Take time to thank God for the many gifts He gives us. Take time to soak in the very Presence of God! Rejoice!
