Caught in the Act!
Bless my heart and my double chin!
I was looking through recent pictures and just had to post this sequence and the funny story that went along with them.
Our youngest, Missy, and her little ones were staying a few days while her husband was out of town on business. Grammie was in her happy place holding baby Josie and reading to Dylan.
Missy is as good as I am about taking pictures and hauled out her camera. She took a shot or two, then started laughing. “Mom! I caught you in the act, didn’t I? You were trying to hide your double chin!”
Of course, the pictures show the rest of the story. I had to fess up, and we all had a good laugh.
Of course, I wouldn’t post anything that didn’t have some totally deep religious application, right? Who would have thought a double chin would lead us to spiritual growth?
There’s an old saying, “Be sure your sins will find you out.” I didn’t know where it was from, but the book of Numbers tells the reason Moses gave this warning to the tribes of Gad and Reuben. It’s an interesting story.
Most importantly, it is truth.
Many times, we think that one little misbehavior doesn’t matter, no one will ever know. Maybe so. Maybe no. Sadly, many times our poor choices and outright sins have a ripple effect that affects or even destroys our witness. Sometimes, those misdeeds or wrongs can emotionally destroy those we love or even kill them.
There is always Someone who knows every deed and every thought. The Bible is adamant that God holds us accountable for every thought, word, or action. Whether good or evil, He knows it all. Because He truly cares about each of us, He doesn’t want us to try to hide our spiritual double chins. He wishes us to come to Him with sincere hearts of repentance.
The good part is that same Someone loves to ‘forgive our trespasses’. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
I could add dozens more verses, but that pretty much says it all.
