Celebrate with Rest!
There are times I skew the meaning of Scripture. Today is such a time. It clearly says, “Having done all, stand!”
I am rephrasing that – “Having done all, sit a spell!” Or “Having done nearly all, rest a while!” Whatever I mean, I intend to sit my ample backside on any chair available!
I am so proud of myself! Today, I mostly followed the recipes I am preparing for the party. Though I made my usual mess (including dropping my lunch on the floor and breaking the plate when my hand forgot to hold on), I mostly got everything cleaned and put away. Since I still have to make my raspberry bars in the morning and anticipate another mess, I didn’t do a super job on the floor. I’m done with that cleaning foolishness for today.
Even though I’ll have to apologize to the sisters later in the day for the torture I am making them endure, and my bone density test is sure to show that M. Munigant has been to work on my bones as he did those of Mr. Harris, (Skeleton by Ray Bradbury) I am glad to have an excuse to sit on the way to the doctor’s office! Of course, I may have to stand and shout at a referee or two during Grady’s basketball game later, but I am rather determined to take the load off these wobbly hips and legs the rest of the day.
I do want to share a few interesting comments about my search for clipart for this blog.
I first searched my usual site for women warriors who were standing. There were absolutely none but sexy ones. Sure enough didn’t correspond to my reality! (And who in their right mind first spelled ‘enough’ with a gh? It took me three tries to get the spelling right!)
Next I searched for women in recliners. Guess how many of those I found? Nada! Zip! Not a single one!
Anyway. Locals – don’t forget the party. Others – make your own fun and let us know how it goes!
So my final words for the day except for Scripture are – Celebrate Rest!
The following verses are for spiritual rest and maybe a little about regular rest. I don’t know for sure. I know it’s worth the read and a good pondering!
It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know He enjoys giving rest to those He loves? Ps 127:2 MSG
Then Jesus said, Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Mathew 11:28 NLT
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me – Watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. Matthew 11:28 MSG
Okay – I do have a few more comments. The image at the top of the page is from a time we went to Puerto Rico. Being by the sea always makes me peaceful and soothes my soul. Not like God does of course. And aren’t the words above ‘unforced rhythms of grace” so poetic? Love it!
